I'm a conscious primate floating around through space on a revolving rock. I'm able to comprehend this, for whatever reason. Out in the darkness beyond where I now am is a mystery, and when I truly admit this to myself, I become very afraid. I was an atheist for a long time until I realized it's not logical to rule anything out when we indeed don't know everything. How are you certain there can't be an energy outside of time that has always been? What if God is not some bearded man in the sky, but is an eternal force beyond the realm of words? It wasn't long ago that I laughed at believers and mocked them with my friends. "How could they be so ignorant? They're following around imaginary dictators in the sky, the poor things. They must be delusional and incapable of accepting reality or logically examining anything. Why do they think their particular scripts are the right ones? What arrogance..." That was me. Those were my words. I'm a changed person now, and I know no ignorance like that which consumed me as an evangelical atheist.

I didn't write this but I think this an amazing reason! (if you are willing to take the time to read it)
sometimes atheists assert that there is no proof that God exists. The only problem is that an atheist cannot logically make that claim.
In order to state that there is no proof for God's existence, the atheist would have to know all alleged proofs that exist in order to then state that there is no proof for God's existence. But, since he cannot know all things, he cannot logically state there is no proof for God's existence.
At best, an atheist can only state that of all the alleged proofs he has seen thus far, none have worked. He could even say that he believes there are no proofs for God's existence. But then, this means that there is the possibility that there is a proof or proofs out there and that he simply has not yet encountered one.
Nevertheless, if there was a proof that truly did prove God's existence, would the atheist be able to accept it given that his presuppositions are in opposition to the existence of God? In other words, given that the atheist has a presuppositional base that there is no God, in order for him to accept a proof for God's existence, he would have to change his presuppositional base. This is not easy to do and would involve a major paradigm shift in the belief structure of the atheist. Therefore, an atheist is presuppositionally hostile to any proofs for God's existence and is less likely to be objective about such attempted proofs.
The second law of thermodynamics states that the amount of energy in a system that is available to do work is decreasing. Entropy increases as available energy decreases. In other words, the purely natural tendency of things is to move toward chaos, not order, and available energy necessary for work is lost (mostly as heat) in this process. Eventually, the universe will run down and all life and motion will cease. This is the natural tendency of all things. Batteries run down, machines break, buildings crumble, roads decay, living things die, etc. Left to the natural state, all things would eventually cease to function.
1. The universe is not infinitely old because it has not "run down."
1. If the universe were infinitely old, it would have reached a state where all usable energy is gone.
2. But, we are not in this state; therefore, the universe is not infinitely old and must have had a beginning.
2. Because the universe has had a beginning it is not infinite in size.
1. It would require an infinite amount of time to become infinite in size. Since the universe had a beginning, it has not had an infinite amount of time to expand; therefore, it is finite in size.
3. All events have causes.
1. There cannot be an infinite regress of events because that would mean the universe were infinitely old.
1. We've already established the universe cannot be infinitely old.
2. If it were infinitely old, the universe would be in a state of unusable energy, which it is not.
3. If it were infinitely old, the universe would be infinitely large, which it is not.
4. Since the universe is finite and had a beginning and there cannot be an infinite number of regressions of causes to bring it into existence, there must be a single uncaused cause of the universe.
1. A single uncaused cause of the universe must be greater in size and duration than the universe it has brought into existence.
1. Otherwise, we have the uncaused cause bringing into existence something greater than or equal to itself.
2. Any cause that is natural to the universe is part of the universe.
1. An event that is part of the universe cannot cause itself to exist.
2. Therefore, there must be an uncaused cause outside the universe.
3. An uncaused cause cannot be a natural part of the universe which is finite.
1. An uncaused cause would be infinite in both space and time since it is greater than which it has caused to exist.
4. An uncaused cause would be separate from the universe.
1. Being separate from the universe, which was caused to be, it would not be subject to the laws of the universe since it existed independent of the universe and its laws.
2. This would mean that entropy need not be required of the uncaused cause.
5. This uncaused cause is supernatural.
1. By supernatural is meant completely 'other' than the universe and is not the product of it.
1. This uncaused cause must be incredibly powerful to bring the universe into existence.
6. The Bible teaches that God is uncaused, is not part of the universe, created the universe, and is incredibly powerful.
1. God's existence (in Christianity) is not an event, but a state.
2. Psalm 90:2 says that God is God without a beginning.
3. This means that God is uncaused.
7. Therefore, the God of the Bible is the uncaused cause of the universe.

I was raised by parents that believe in God so I believed from a very young age. However, as I got older and got to know God better I realised that I believe not because my parents raised me that way, but because of the peace and hope it gives me and the moral principals that guide my life. It's not always easy, especially if you pray really hard for something or someone and it doesn't work out, but that's where faith comes in. I believe God has my best interest in mind and he knows more than I do so I just have to let go and trust. I also have seen some miracles in my life and the life of others that can only be attributed to being a miracle from God.

i believe because i started realizing that there were spirits in everything. i felt empathy for trees, and comerderie with the natural world. the only thing that made sense was that the universe was a living entity. i have since come to realize that the universe is beyond being a god, and that the gods are here to help us. you don't have to believe in them for them to help you, you just have to honestly persue being a good person. since then i've seen apparitions of the goddess, and cernunos has come to me several times. maybe it's a delusion as the atheists say, but that's not the point. the point is that they are helping on my path.

what do atheist believe in? do you ever say "oh my God"? i am curious too.
I believe in God because i was always told that he exists. But i also believe in the science theories. I see there's nothing wrong believing or not believing, the importance here is to be a good human being and give respect to eachother.

Cause if I hadnt heard the truth about what happened to mankind, Who was sent to clean up the mess I never would have said the name of Jesus Christ and believed that God raised him from the dead. And then I never would have known that I'm not alone and that no matter what happens someone loves me. and he never would have revealed him self to me. Help me ,provided a way to get my rent. etc. Once you believe in him, he starts to show you that he is alive and can move and can make things happen, and can protect you etc. Oh and by the way he states in his word that he has given it every human to understand that HE exsists, and in addition he said that he also gave every human a measure of faith. He also said that you deny what you know is true. So your are not an atheist you are a denier.

I was miraculously saved from dying when I fell off a cliff. From that day on, I feel that 'someone' saved me and that I have a purpose in life. It was an amazing, life-changing experience that still stays with me everyday. Bible thumpers wouldn't agree with me (they say it's a sin), but just ask "if there is a God (god), then if he/she/it would kindly give you some proof" then wait for the proof. I've done it over 20 times and had something magical happen. Give it a try!

nah, i dont. i have no idea what makes em tick, but they just have something inside them that is so persistant to go to church and experiance this feeling of faith, so i tried the services and churches and im like, i dont feel a thing! so truthfully, everyones different, but religion wise, some people are set apart and have different beliefs and are atheist or agnostic. but im only 13, so it would seem a hard decision to make, but church and god didnt come naturally. beleivers can always find time to appreciate god, and i just dont see how its possible.
im agnostic, i dont beleive in god, but i beleive theres nothing that holds a supernatural force or something irregular back.
alright dude, message me anytime u want.

So, so many answered prayers. The ones that just can not be explained.
I've seen God work before my very eyes, and was more amazed than I ever have been before.
I have every reason to believe, and KNOW that my God is real. His love is overwhelming.
Plus, the fact that He adores me, including my faults, weaknesses, and has patience to help me through the rough times. Even more, He adores YOU, even though you have strayed away, and can no longer hear him calling your name. He loves you so much, and longs for you to follow Him.
God Bless.

Because my parents believe and I don't want to disappoint them.
Oh yeah, there's this thing called faith - I'm too young to really understand it, but my preacher says that if I keep reading the Bible and pray and don't ask too many questions, that I'll understand it more.
and most important, faith will enable me to believe things that aren't real.
PS, Don H. (on the last page)
You sure are lucky that God gave you a sign so you could believe... I guess he gave Paul the apostle and Mohammad a sign too, and that Joseph Smith guy...
If God gave everybody a sign, then everybody would believe, but my pastor says that God does not like revealing Himself to people, so you're lucky!
