The PS3 looks nice (Blu-ray etcetc) and I am wondering, since my family is siiiickk we'd just buy gifts after, since there may be little day before x-mas.
The main thing about the x-box is halo 3 is VERY attratctive to me (Meaning I want it, not that it gets me hot >.<) as is xbox live
Is there any good FPS like halo and such on PS3, and other good reasons besides blu-ray for 50 or so bucks more.

"Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons" Alright. oh yeah, some of you aren't listing PS3 exclusive ;)
-Halo 3 is an awsome game, and I don't know if it will come out for PC soon
-External hard drive (I dunno about PS3)
-More established online comunity.
-Controller is a little more comfy, though maybe its cause I've been playing w/ old xbox alot
-They lowered the crash rate since, last year I think.

Plus it looks better; based on the pics I've seen.

You asked me, lolol. Which kind should I get? (PS3)

"One drastic disadvantage of the Playstation 3 is the fact that you cannot send messages to your friend from within a game; in order to reach the XMB or ‘main menu’ of the PS3, you need to quit out of the game you are playing, and go to your friends list that way. There is nothing in the way of voice chat (with the exception of Warhawk), and no cross-game invite system. With XBOX Live, hit one button and you can reach your friends right away. Send them a voice message, or text message, or invite them to the server you’re playing on. You can even add your MSN/Live Messenger list to the 360, and talk to your non-gaming friends any time you want."

This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can't beat it (sources below). Also this question is so often!!!

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

1). A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.
2). PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
3). PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
4). Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
5). PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in 4 slots card reader (except 20GB and 40GB versions), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
6). PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
7). PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
8). Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It's difficult to compare their graphics chips, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. However, PS3 exclusives look better than 360's exclusives.
9). PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.
10). Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
11). Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
12). In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
13). PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
14). There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
15). The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).
16). On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
17). PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
18).Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
19).Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.
20). PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) in 1st quarter 2008, Japan already has it. On www.ebay.com I saw those controllers on sale 50$ and up (unofficial import)
21).On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.
22).New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it's the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.
23). But, to be just, I'm not a PS3 fanboy, so (despite I own one) hear this - PS3 games (exclusives) are very hard to develop due to complicated Cell's architecture. We have to wait till developers will figure out how to develop games properly. Sometimes multiplatform games run not so good on PS3 due to the same developing issues - it's hard for developers to get a grip on such advanced technologies.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.

I recommend the PS3.

Right now there is just one PS3 exclusive shooter: Resistance Fall of Man and a timed exclusive shooter: Unreal Tournament 3.

But next year the PS3 will be getting 2 really anticipated exclusive shooters: Haze and Killzone 2.

Haze is going to be the shooter with the best multiplayer most likely, but Killzone 2 is just going to blow little ol' Halo 3 away in terms of graphics and Haze probably will too. Killzone 2 is going to have multiplayer most likely because the first Killzone did. Killzone is the best shooter that I've ever played and Black is probably my second favorite.

In my opinion, I think that Haze will be equal or even better than Halo 3 when it comes to multiplayer because I have read a lot about this game and everything sounds awesome. Haze is coming out the first Quarter of 2008 (Janary -March) and Killzone 2 is coming out around the same time frame.

And there is one other good reason to buy a PS3 over the Xbox 360:

More exclusives in 2008
More reliable
The PS3 will have a longer lifespan no doubt
The PS3 has the most potential, it's true power is yet to be seen.

HEY THAT GUY STOLE MY ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you dont believe me- look at my profile and see the questions that i answered!!! reporting that guy...

you are better off getting a ps3 because...

- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player

-ps3 supports 1.3 HDMI which has rich colors and xbox supports 1.2 HDMI

- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 50gb)

- because of the blu-ray's huge space, ps3 will have WAY better graphics than 360

- online is free for ps3 not like 360

- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring

- you can browse the internet on ps3, no such thing for xbox 360

- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it

- developers stated that they will start using ps3 as the lead platform and port ps3 games to xbox

- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have(FREE)

- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p

- built in Wi-Fi

- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: .2% hardware failure(see the decimal? less than 1%!)

- ps3 has better back-comp except the 40gb

- rumble returns in spring 2008

- you can upgrade your harddrive without voiding warranties with any 2.5 HDD, which xbox cant because you have to buy a xbox HDD
(they actually have the step by step on how to upgrade it on playstation.com)

those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this

Now I want you to do me a favor, list all the reasons why xbox is better than ps3. I PROMISE you that nobody will get at least 5 reasons

Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $499 with motorstorm
40gb: $399 with spiderman 3 blu-ray
xbox 360(premium)- $349
(elite)- $449
if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars, so that means ps3 is actually cheaper

HAZE is a ps3 exclusive that is coming out next month JUST like halo- remember, metal gear solid 4, killzone 2, final fanasty, list too long to name!!
there is no difference b/w xbox live and PSN, i mean, playstation home is coming out in spring 08 which is free and it will BLOW xbox live away

I'll tell you the Pros and Cons of the Xbox 360 and PS3 (please don't let my name foul you)

Xbox 360 pros- A lot of games, fun online play (i've heard),and Halo 3 like you said

Cons- $50 online play, Red Ring of Death, and It'll ruin the fun knowing that a lot of people own it and not the glory of owning a game system that not everybody owns.

PS3 pros- Free online play, good games in 2008, usually gets a multi-platform game first than 360 (such as Unreal Tournament 3),Blu ray like you said, and some more that i can't think of

Cons-PSN not as good yet, updates are slow and un exciting (well sometimes),not enough games yet, and a lot of game delays

You should get a Playstation 3 because i've found most popular games like nba 2k8 and call of duty 4 have better graphics on the ps3 ( in my opinion)

Plus you can play Blu-Ray Discs on it. ( no charge.. unlike xbox 360 which you have to pay $200 for HD DVD upgrade)

BOTTOM LINE: GETTA PS3!!

# Playstation 3 games are produced on 50 gigabyte bluray disks which means room for Huge games with great graphics

Microsoft has extended the Warranty on the 360 console for one such issue that many call the Red Ring of Death or RROD. If you have this issue or have suffered disk scratching contact Microsoft Support at 1-800-4my-xbox for Console exchange and repair

PS3 has better technology and Ubisoft is releasing there next game to exclusive to ps3 (HAZE). Game producers need the space that blueray offers for great graphics and games that take longer than an afternoon (halo 3 takes 3 hours to beat). microsoft refuses to have the hddvd player come standard with the 360 and won't allow game producers to use the hddvd 25gig format.

okay COD4 Restistence Fall of Man Time Shift Time Crisis Warhawk(flying game) Drakes Uncharted(3rd Person shooter) Rachet and Clank(overall awesome game) and tons of other games so i say you should buy the PS3 instead of the 360 and the 360 has a high crash rate.

I really wouldn't get the PS3. The blu-ray is nice, but for the price, I don't think it makes up for it. The Xbox 360 has the best games, in my opinion, plus, you can still have hi-def. The only shooter that might be worth getting on the PS3 is Resistance: Fall of Man, but I don't really think it's worth it. So, I'd go for the Xbox 360, but before you buy one, look on the box and try to get one with a lot number of 0738 or higher, one that is 175W, is a team of FDOU. Those should all be on the box. You might be able to find out the manufacture date. If you can, get one that was made quite recent. Hope I helped.
