I have heard this so many times I could spit. Most recently from Ory: "Sorry, Atheism is a religion. It's the worship of one's self as the highest form of being."

I do not worship myself! Where did this bull come from? Some idiot preacher?

I don't know, I don't remember ever praying to myself, or offering myself a sacrifice.

Christians think that we have to worship something. So if we aren't worshiping God, then we must be involved in self-worship or devil worship. Why Christians listen to Rush, the hypocritical drug addict, I'll never know.

Besides "Isn't telling an atheist that atheism is a religion, the same as saying not collecting stamps is a hobby?"

Interesting concept. I disagree with it in that to worship requires some form of action. Atheists are living in the same manner that Christians do absent the worshiping of God (Going to work. Raising a family. So forth) . Thus this would mean that Christians also worship themselves as they live day to day (Going to work. Raising a family. So forth) just as the atheist does.

ATHEISTS may worship money, their spouse, their job, or some thing. A few MAY even worship themselves (Paris Hilton types). This can also be said of CHRISTIANS that have lost some focus.

It's a narrow-minded projection. They just don't understand the concept that not everyone is like them, so they assume we worship something, and since we don't believe in anything supernatural.

Do I believe in anything bigger than myself? Yes, elephants are pretty big. Do I worship anything? No.

I see the other way around - Religion is the worship of humanity. The best example of this comes from the E/C debate ("I didn't come from no darn munkey!"). After Islam, evangelical/fundamentalist Christianity worships humanity like no other religion on Earth.

I suppose everyone worships themselves. At least humanists and atheists do it right and know what they're doing and are usually more honest about it.

But I doubt that you worship yourself any more than any given evangelical/fundamentalist Christian.

I remember many stories being told about atheists when I was a Xian, I hate to say it, but I thought that they were true.

It is amazing that normally rational and/or skeptical people would believe anything they hear from other respected Xians without actually finding out the truth. A good example of this, besides "beliefs" about atheists, is the misinformation that circulates in the guise of creationism.

Edit:
Yipee! above me is another good example of regurgitating misinformation that he hasn't really researched.

Bible disagrees with you but you dont believe in Bible, if not yourselves what is it you believe in? Ive heard flying spagetti monster,Invisible pink unicorn to mock what we believe. Its too bad some people (on both sides are pretending to get both side against each other) take the higher ground. I have been an agnostic a atheist a womanizer in my life for me Christ has been the only thing that has made everlasting change, dont reject untill you inspect!
