>> How was Jesus in the line of David if his father was not
>> Joseph?
As now, some things were not politically correct and the recording of the lineages of women was that. (In their culture, the blood line was through the mother -- but the inheritance was through the father.) Thus, you'll find two lineages given in the Gospels (Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38). However, you'll notice that the two lineages don't match up. The reason is that one of them is actually Mary's lineage (Luke 3:23-38). So, both Mary *and* Joseph were of the lineage of David.
God bless.

The Jewish religion to this day accepts you through the blood line of the Mother. (Mary)
Joseph was Jesus' Step Father but they kept records through the Father's side. Joseph was also from the bloodline of David.

The line flows through the Female line. After all, in those days, YOU KNEW that the baby is hers...the "father" has to accept the child as his.
Just for the record...he was from the line of David from both His mother and step-father.

Tis true...Mary and Joseph were kin...and in the line of David. Mary must have been related to the line of Levi also, since her cousin Elisabeth was a Levite. Mary was also a descendant of Rahab...the woman who helped the spies escape Jericho before Joshua's famous battle there.

If you would look at the Gospels you will find that He was in the line of David on both His mother's and His human father's side.
