Yeah, my dad has a two-year streak of giving me a few good Christmas gifts and one stinker.
I learned a long time ago to be gracious and appreciative when receiving any gift, no matter how bad it is. The person made an effort to buy or make it and they're trying to do something nice so you have to appreciate that.
After you leave, you can throw it out, ebay it, regift it later or give it away to someone else.

You just say: "Gee, thanks..." and return/exchange the gift at the next opportunity. If they ask later, you can tell them the truth; just say that the gift was causing a problem for you, so it had to go (it was too small / large / made the cat sick, etc.). The other person should accept this explanation, unless they live for causing guilt trips in others over trivial matters.

I would accept it....
Be happy that someone gave me a gift...
The real value of a gift comes when someone cares about you... loves you... remembers you. Its not how nice the gift is coz the real value is to show love, respect. :)

Try to find something to say about how it could be used in my day to day life.
as in
"Oh wow, I can really get a lot of enjoyment out of these toe rings in summer!"
I have practice..certain members of my family buy in bulk for Christmas..and it is scary.

"Wow, thanks. You really didn't have to get me anything. No, you shouldn't have. I mean it. You really, really shouldn't have. How nice of you."
