I was just wondering if you were currently using the birth control pill, and started using a nicotine patch (for the last couple weeks), if it could cause the effects of using a birth control pill to not work as effectively.

Or would it be just like taking the pill and being a smoker, since it's still nicotine, only entering through the skin instead of the mouth?

It won't interfere with the effectiveness of the birth control pill. The reason that you shouldn't smoke if you take the pill (especially if you are over 35) is that it raises the odds of side effects like stroke or heart disease. I would check with the doctor, but I would think that if the patch helps you to stop smoking then that is the best way to go. And if you are under 35 then you don't have to worry about the side effects as much yet so the sooner you quit smoking the better.

No, does not interfere at all.
