When people ask me what my religion is, I always say I don't have one. I don't believe in organized religion or feel that I need to dedicate a part of my life to it. I don't, however, rule out the possibility that there is a higher force out there. I just don't believe that it matters whether or not there is. Therefore, I rather not spend my life trying to figure out if there is or not. What would sort of philosophy would this be considered? I was thinking Agnostic, but I always felt Agnostic was for people who were unsure and whose minds were not made up.

I would say you're an Agnostic. An Agnostic doesn't rule out the possibility of there being a higher power out there, but doesn't think that people can ever really know if there is or not. You're definitely not an Atheist, as other people answered, since that is someone who believes that there is NO god or higher power.

I'm a Bright. For more info, check out Richard Dawkin's book, The God Delusion. Richard goes into quite a bit of detail about why children should not be pre-programmed into any sort of religious doctrine. You might like what Brights stand for.

You sound like my boyfriend. He calls himself an agnostic atheist, which means he is open to the possibility of there being a god but he highly doubts it.

You're agnostic. An atheist believes there is no God. An agnostic doesn't know (no need to rule it out, just doesn't know) and doesn't care. Sounds like that's you.

You're not an atheist - we believe that no god exists, and you say you don't rule that out.

You could be considered an agnostic. They say that there's no way to know for sure. They don't see any evidence, but they're willing to consider the possibility if evidence can be found.

You might consider yourself to be a theist, although this implies that you do believe that a god exists, but maybe you're not sure of what flavor of god it is, or what denomination.

Any of these feel comfortable?

"I just don't believe that it matters whether or not there is."

That makes you a nontheist. 'Nontheist' has two definitions, both of which you fit.

First, it is a general term for anyone who isn't religious. It applies to atheists, agnostics, ignostics, strict nontheists, etc.

Second, the more strict definition refers specifically to people who believe that God is irrelevant. That is me, and apparently you. Welcome to the club.

I would say I am not a religious person. If you say your agnostic or atheist then it means that you are open for discussion.

Agnostic. it isn't for people that are unsure. It's for people that know there's no way of knowing.
