Just like every women who thinks that adding implants or changing thier face would make them more attractive, why do African-American women use weaves/ wigs to make them attractive. I mean, they always say that black is beautiful, so why not go with the natural look?

Yes, I know that not only black women use weaves.

I wish I knew why?
They often have long @$$ fake fingernails and red lipstick redder than a baboon's @$$ as well.
This might be one of our universes greatest mysteries.

I don't use weave as an African American women, but I do know that during the summer, it is a lot easier to maintain your hair when there is weave applied. you can have your natural hair braided or wrapped and just have the weave or wig applied....its convenient

and I'm not offended, this is what this site is for....questions and answers!!!!

You could say that about anything though. Why wear makeup or earrings? It's simply a matter of personal preference. I'd love to be able to have all the options available to black women with their hair. I can't get my hair to do too much the way it is. :) I personally think there are plenty of black women who look beautiful with a natural look, but there are still others who look better with wigs and weaves.

If you know that not only African American women use weaves, why do you only ask African American women? Also to consider is that African American women are individuals; we don't all do the same things and even if a lot of us do something, we wouldn't all do it for the same reasons. Whether you intended it to be or not, you question is offensive because you are assuming that a stereotype is true. I'm black and I don't wear wigs or weaves. My mom wears one because she had breast cancer and had to have a mastectomy which lead to chemotherapy which made her hair fall out; the hair on her head, eyebrows, all of that. It helped her to feel a little better when she looks in the mirror. Now, her hair has grown back some, but it's very different in texture and color than it was before; it's a constant reminder of her battle with cancer, so she wears twists with fake hair that hides her real hair so that she can see herself when she looks in the mirror instead of the effects of the cancer. Is that what you wanted to know?

not every woman thinks going under will make them more attractive.
And, although Im not African-American, i know that most of the girls have a hair texture that is difficult to style and grow, so wigs and weaves help them.

I am 1/2 black and I don't do the weave. My friend (who does weaves) says it is just something that makes it easier to deal with every day

First, some of us do go with the natural look. Second, women of all races wear weaves and wigs. I don't understand why you'd be curious about the reasons that African American women wear them but not the reasons that women of other races wear them. You could ask this question of other women and the answers would be the same. African American women don't wear weaves and wigs for any unique reason that doesn't apply across the board.

I being African American and Russian wear extensions in my hair, Why? For convenience, its a lot easier for me to wear them now and be able to pull my hair into a pony tail in the morning if I'm in a hurry as opposed to having to get up an hour early to do my hair in the mornings. Sometimes, African American women have a texture of hair that makes it difficult to manage. Our hair doesn't grow, and maintain the way that it does for Caucasian's or Asians. (I'm sure you know what I mean). I don't consider it a way to make myself more attractive, although it does because my hair is more manageable, making it look better.

It's a way to add length and get that European look. I thing it looks silly on anybody. If it ain't natural, it ain't natural.
