The correct dosage is a half of 0.4mg/ml. So you must use

0.5 ml of 0.4mg/ml.

0.2 mg would be contained in half a milliliter of a 0.4mg/ml (4/10 g per milliliter) solution. If you are using a syringe, you can get 1ml. syringes that are marked in 0.1 ml (1/10th ml) and 0.01 ml (1/100th ml). You would give 0.5 ml (5/10 or 1/2 ml) or half of a 1 ml syringe.
If this doesn't make sense to you, contact the prescribing physician to make sure you are giving the correct dosage.

algebra ratio....set up fraction with given dose, 0.4mg over 1ml .....dose needed, 0.2 mg over x(unknown) ml....set up ratio of 0.4 over 1 ml = 0.2 mg over x ml, cross multiply and solve for x....0.2 times 1 = 0.4 times x...0.2=0.4x...0.2 divided by 0.4=x...0.5=x....just make sure you set up the fractions with the same variables on top, mg, and same on bottom, ml....also btw, when you write the number .2, always use a leading zero, as in 0.2, so the number is not mistaken for 2....never use a trailing 0, as in 2.0, so the number is not mistaken for 20....reduce drug calc errors

0.2 mg from a concentration of 0.4 mg/ml would require you to divide 0.2 by 0.4. The units would then cancel and you'd be left with the answer of 0.5 ml.
