Recently, I attended my son's school christmas concert. He played his trombone and it was all marvellous. However, my son made it very clear afterwards that he was ashamed of me because I wear underpants over my trousers. It is a lifestyle choice, I like the look. I explained to him that people are allowed to wear what they like, but he fails to understand this. How can I convince my son and his peers that wearing a pair of Y-fronts over your courdoroys is perfectly normal?

Children are very odd. I used to be a bit embarrassed of my dad wearing a novelty moustache in the privacy of my own home. He'll grow out of it, and if he doesn't then he's no son of yours. Then forget him!

You have some really strange posts! You should see a psychiatrist! You have a totally warped mind and I dont even think you are suitable to be a parent.
In otherwards yes of course the poor boy was embarrased and he has every right to be. Its not normal. Its not like a decision to wear a multi colour shirt. He's probably even been bullied in school because of your strange behaviour. Some children have no sensitivity in subjects like this.

You should know by now that the only person who can pull off the underpants-over-the-trousers look is Superman, now get a life!

um..... this dose not embarrass you? OK them maybe you should try to be a little more normal like the other parents that you saw i mean not to be mean but that would be a little emarrasing to have your parent to do that... try to put your self in your childs position would you like youlike to be out in public with your parent wearing underpants over there pants?

He is probably just going through those phases where if you dont fit in you are not human. It is going to be very hard to convince him because his friends use peer pressure to brain wash him into thinking that looks matter and that you have to wear certain types of clothing...good luck though

chilldren have different things that they expect of parents. With you, it was the way you dress. With me, it was being overprotecting. My son played football and wouldn't let me know of any of his games because he said I would embarrass him by screaming, " Get off my baby right now!" Although I promised not to do it anymore, he was just fed up. I just didn't know I was embarrasing him and was concerned for his safety like any caring mom would be. Because I was a caring mom, I missed all of his games. If your son is embarrassed by the way you dress, please, ask your child to help you pick your outfit. Otherwise...you'll be just like me and miss out on all of your child's concerts.

I don't think its possible to explain this to your child or his peers because it is not perfectly normal and I completely understand why your child was embarrassed. Maybe you could change your ways during the time your child is expecting you at school or other activities so you don't embarrass him so much!
