You don't have to be naked to die of exposure, you can die of exposure if you are fully dressed, but are not adequately dressed for the weather. Eg. Wearing a sweater, jeans and sneakers during a blizzard.
The more adequate saying should be dying of hypothermia. Your body temperature drops too low and your organs shut down.

The basic rule for survival is to stay dry and out of chilling winds. If you can do that without clothing then you are on a winner.
The art of survival is to maintain a body temperature within the bounds of reasonable comfort. The body can happily survive sub-zero temperatures, as long as the transition to lower temperatures are slow enough. An ambient drop in temperature of about 10 deg. in an hour will induce a level of thermal shock, which can kill. This means that in certain climates it is possible to suffer hyperthemic effects at ambient temperatures of 15-20 deg.
If you are limited in the amount of clothing, the best use of that clothing is to keep the head warm. The body will do its best to maintain a constant brain temperature, at the expense of the extremities. Close down of the legs and arms will accelerate hyperthermia.

you don't have to be naked to die of exposure although the less you have on the faster it can happen. What is required though is an extreme of temperature such as being immersed in icy water or sitting on an ice floe in the arctic or even gettign lost for too long in the woods in cold or weather.

I think the question is really, how long do you have to be naked outside before you die of exposure...and the answer is...it depends...on the ambient temperature, wind speed, etc...if it is very cold outside, it wont take long. If you live in Miami...you'll be OK!

being naked has nothing to do with dieing of exposure it all has to do with outside/inside temps the colder it is the less time you will have it also depends on whether or not you are wet or dry being wet pulls out more of the bodies warmth and it is your core body temp that tells when you will die ie the body shuts down

You don't have to be naked at all!
Hundreds of people died of exposure when they leapt off the Titanic and I somehow doubt whether they bothered to strip off before jumping!

It depends on what the temperature is and your body fat percentage.
For instance, if it is 80F, you can be naked indefinately.
If it is well below freezing, and you have very low body fat, it can be a matter of minutes.
