My boyfriend and I pulled up into our driveway of our house. As we were pulling in we noticed an animal cage on the sidewalk in front of our house. We went to go look at it and there were two cats in the animal cage next to a liter box, cat food, and liter stuff (the pebble stuff).
So we went to the building next to our house (8 units) knocked on a few doors. Found the old owners of the cats they said "they are not ours anymore, we do not want them". My boyfriend was pissed off and told them "you can't just leave live animals in a cage on the sidewalk, that is wrong!!!".
Well we took the cats and brought them into our house. The girl (old owner, teenager) came to our house saying "you have a problem with us" and I told her yeah "it is illegal to leave live animals outside in a cage on the sidewalk," "you are trash, you cannot leave live animals caged on a sidewalk, normal people bring them to a shelter or give them to someone else!" I was and still am POed. I have never never

never never experienced anything like this in my life. Welcome to Los Angeles, Hollywood!!! Anywho she starts calling me a fu*&ing biotch over and over. We all started arguing and they (old owners) told us to give the cats back to them and we said NO you will probably put them in a dumpster. Then I told her that I was going to call the police if she did not get out of my front yard and the humane society for animal abuse.
What should we do? I would keep them but I have 2 Jindos (dogs) who HATE cats. We are trying to find a place that will not put them under. They are brother and sister and soooooooo adorable.!!!
Any suggestions.
Oh I just hope she doesn't do anything crazy to us because she (the old owners of the cats) live right next door to us.
Thanks!!!

Call and file a police report by calling the non-emergency number..
Find out if you can file a report with whoever presses charges on animal control. The police should be able to tell you who that is.
They may not do anything, but, they probably will add them to Do Not Adopt lists at the local shelters so that they can't get a kitten next year like people like that tend to do.
That way, you also have a report filed so that if something else does happen, it's obvious who probably did it..
Other then that, my only suggestions for the cats are to keep them in a separate room if you can and contact the local shelters. You may even be able to find a rescue or no-kill shelter with available space for them, though it'll probably take a few days at least.. You can locate area shelters by going to petfinder.com and looking for rescues by zipcode..
There's no reason not to file a report against someone like that. You're not doing anyone any favors by not filing.
We had to do something similar with my neighbor.. She was always stealing stuff out of our shed and looking in our windows trying to get us in trouble. The police came out after I played them one of the messages she left for me and she's stayed away ever since.. She knows if anything happens here, they'll probably blame her and she stays away..

I'v e worked at a Humane Society and I'm not sure if it is different or not, but they don't put cats down. You were right not to give them back. Once in Spain I saw a man holding a cat by the scruff of the neck and walking towards the river. I couldn't do anything then because it was a dog friendly neighbourhood and the police wouldn't care and I was only visiting. If you take them to the Humane Society will care for them.

Good for you! I'd be mad as h*ll too if I were you!!
1. Call the police and report these people. They deserve at least a ticket.
2. Post an ad on craigslist.org
3. Go to Petfinder.com and look for rescue groups in your area. See if any of them can take the cats.
4. See if any of your friends can watch the cats temporarily while you sort through all of this to keep them away from your dogs.
Honestly, what is wrong with people? And right before christmas too! what *******!!

Call your local SPCA. They may offer you suggestions even if they are too full to take them in. The other people abandoned them, I would not give them back. They would just find another way to 'get rid of them'. Do you have any witnesses to what happened or what was said? I would think they'd drop it considering the circumstances but ya' never know. I would probably call the local animal control and file a report to cover my bum from a legal standpoint.
Petfinder.com lists rescues by locality. There will likely be several cat specific rescues in your area. I'd start calling them and explain how they were dumped and your animal situation. Be persistent but polite. Rescue people hear it all and may have to meet you and check things out first.

OMG! good for you. I would have totally curse them out liek that, and then i'll call the police for sure. anyway, well i think that you should find some friends or family member who would want to take care of them. or if you can't withing the next couple of weeks then give them to the humane society. i know that there are plenty in LA, it might be a little bit of driving, but at least , at the humane society, the cats will not be kill and they can get vet treatments (for any problems) and plenty of care and attention. but it you give it to a shelter, they might be put to sleep with all the crowding in a big city like that. so good luck. thank god you didn;t give the cats back!!!

All you can do is either find some friends who can keep them while you look for a good home for them (place ads in papers, the Internet, etc), or find a no-kill shelter. They do exist. I live in Canada, so I can't recommend any near LA.
I am grateful that there are people out there like you who care about animals and their well-being. However you shouldn't attack those people. At least they didn't hurt them, and you can't force them to want to take care of them. I think those cats are lucky to have been found by you and your boyfriend.
Good luck and God bless.

God bless you! those owners are CRUEL! DO NOT i repeat DO NOT give it back to the owners. do WHATEVER you can. contact your local ASPCA or look up your local animal shelter (not the ones that kill the pets when they don't get an owner). tell all your friends & see if they want them, & for now at least try keeping them at a friend's house. please email me if you have any questions. i am a big cat lover and would like it if these cats got a good home. good luck on your search & all you can do it pray that you do find someone loving for these kittens!

Take them to the animal shelter, or call your vet and ask if they know of anyone fostering cats, or do an online search on cat rescue in your city. DO NOT give them back to the other people, you're right in that they'd be abused.

try listing them on craigslist, look for someone who wants to cats with the whole set up....
if no one responds bring them to an animal shelter...
Sorry to hear about your crazy neighbors... that sucks.... close your doors, put on some relaxing music and ignore them... knowing you are a good person and to your neighbors, what comes around goes around... one day.

That's so terrible!! I hate people like that!
As mentioned before, call around and find a no-kill shelter, or if possible, put flyers up in your area so people can call in and adopt them.
