Suggest she go to them and tell them "they can do much better than that" see what happens. If it all goes well, great! If not, I guess that $80 wasnt so bad afterall.

Unless the bonus is part of her contract, then it is a gift or, well, a bonus. Given this, the employer has no obligation to give her any sort of bonus.

She should take the bonus, and if she really thinks it's too low, then she should look for other employment.

I have rarely gotten a bonus that is equal to a day's pay, most of them are much lower.

Even if she works 24hrs a day, that would still calculate into a livable wage. If you can't live on this, then you should either cut back on expenses where you can, or, instead of posting questions on Yahoo, maybe you or her could find work with better wages if you feel that's necessary. I'm sorry to sound so harsh, but it's just that there are people who would be very willing but aren't able to work for $180 a day. Yes, I realize it's probably a lot of work, too, but I think asking for more of a BONUS comes across as greedy and flaky.

A bonus is something extra, not something you are due or that you've even earned; that's pretty much the definition of the word bonus. She can take it or not, but I think she's nuts if she doesn't. $80 is $80 and I, for one, can do all sorts of wonderful things with $80!

Although that is a rather low bonus, it is not up to her to decide. It's a bonus and unless it's written into the contract that she will receive x amount for a bonus then she has no say.
She should accept it gratefully, they could have decided not to give her anything.

I once refused a raise, but I asked for it. A bonus is something that is not neccesarily the resposibility of the employer. In my situation I was insulted by the low raise they tried to give me, in your wifes case....she should be flattered that they offered anything at all.

I know we all work and feel that we are the best thing that's ever happened to our places of employment, truth is there will always be an applicant for most things that we do.

Are you kidding ? Thats a good way to go to the top of the bosses s**t list and join the army of the unemployed. My wife does the same thing and got nothing for Christmas.

I would accept the bonus. I am guessing it's a holiday bonus. With so many places doing away with a holiday bonus, and the economy being what it is, I would graciously accept and say thank you.

A bonus is just that: bonus. She shouldn't be expecting anything. If she feels that she's not being paid appropriately for her work, she can find a new job where they will appreciate her more.

She should...yes. A bonus is just that. A bonus. It should be accepted in the same spirit as it is given.

Erm, if she makes $180 per DAY doing nurse aid/housekeeper type work, she shouldn't expect a bonus...
