Interesting - if you want to find out more about the history of your blood relatives, you should start at your local public library. Most of them have a genealogy section to get you started.

The closest meanings I could find were these:
Brunke
South German: from Middle High German brunke ‘splendor’, hence probably a nickname for an ostentatious dresser.
North German (and Frisian): from a pet form of the personal name Brun(o) or the byname Brun (see Brun).
Hauff
English: variant of Haugh.
German: topographic name from Middle High German houfe ‘heap’, e.g. of stones, or in southern Germany, a nickname from the same word in the sense ‘crowd’, ‘group of soldiers’.

I don't know anyone with that exact name, but my aunt's married name is BRUNK.

Robert Brunkenhoefer is an attorney in Corpus Christi, TX
James Brunkenhoefer is a transportation guru in Washington (he is a native Texan, too)

Sounds like you might want to focus your search in Texas, to begin with. There were other Brunkenhoefer names mentioned in a Google search, and some of them also had Texas connections.

I have to agree with the first answerer and check with the local library. Also research the genealogy library at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints (Mormon Church) as they have some excellent resources at their disposal

I've never heard of that last name, but it looks German to me.
