I suppose it's because we don't feel the need to make a commercial affair out of a comparatively minor Jewish holiday. If the Christians want to turn their holiday into a film festival, that's up to them ;-)

Movie-making is a business just like any other, so movie makers want their products to appeal to many consumers. As there are fewer people who celebrate Hanukkah, and therefore would relate more closely to a Hanukkah film, they focus on the more marketed holiday, Christmas. Also, if you think about it, although there are Christmas trees in the background, most of the Christmas movies are not based on the holiday of Christmas. They do not focus on the religious basis, just the holiday season and the feelings of joy and love that are celebrated in both Hanukkah and Christmas! Happy holidays!

Because Hanukkah isn't a major Jewish holiday, everyone just thinks it is because they don't know any better. Either way, I thought the Hebrew Hammer was awesome. Most people don't know that one but it's hilarious.

You can market Christmas, but Hanukkah isn't the same kind of holiday. It is actually a holiday.

I'm not aware of any other than the one you mentioned...

However, there is an episode of the TV Show "Night Gallery" that is wonderful. It's episode #19 and called "The Messiah on Mott Street".

Hope this helps....

Oh, haha. That's the only Hanukkah movie I know of and you shot it down. Oh well. Happy holidays. :P

it is sorta like this... there is a way bigger market for x-mas movies than there are for Hanukkah. it's like there are more computers sold with windows operating programs than mac programs, the demand is what controls the market and what you see.

Sorry to suggest it, but I enjoyed the Rugrat's Hanukkah. I thought it was well done for a cartoon, but then again, I enjoy the Rugrats.

Lights is a cute Chanukah movie, but are not many others that are decent. Orthodox Jews don't watch too many movies.
