A Ruger MKII is a great .22 caliber pistol to learn on. Very reliable and accurate, once you build up some competency on that, you can move up to a centerfire.

Ruger Brand in 22 long rifle caliber.* Buy new or used.* A new handgun doesn't shoot any better than a used one, and you save $$$$$.*

Ruger Mk II or Mk III.Could also go with a makarov.suitable for defense, targets,or plinking. The 9x18 rounds aren't as inexpensive as .22 lr,but then again nothing is.

I had watched a lot of action movies involving guns.
A 9mm Beretta would be best.
But if there is a Saturday Night Special (or "derringers") that can fire 9mm Beretta rounds, that would be a little bit better.
