I know every belief system goes through some kind of criticism, but Mormons really have it bad compared to others. The criticism of their faith often goes beyond their beliefs and leads to attacks against the people themselves. Most Mormons are kind and moral people, so why do so many non-Mormons think it's justifiable to attack them? Even some so-called "loving Christians" think it's perfectly okay to trash them. I haven't seen too many religious groups of people that get joked/trashed on more often than Mormons. What makes them such a common target for criticism?

I think that it stems from ignorance of what the Bible teaches and from a feeling that somehow Mormons are "the enemy" of Christianity because they seek to lead people into a "false religious system" and preach a "different gospel".
It's like an Atheist or a Hindu is OK because they don't claim to represent Jesus Christ here on earth, but a Mormon is like a pretender to the Christian faith so they somehow need to be treated with less love and respect than others. But here's what the Bible says:
2 Timothy 2:23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

I think some people do because they are frightened by a religion with such a dark history. However they fail to look at their own history.
I was a mormon, i left of my own volition. When I left I was temple worthy and there was no sin, but I had found out many things about the history that were quite disturbing. No not just "anti mormon " books and sites. That is such a cop out so that mormons can ignore their own darkened history. Doctrines that have been changed over time, blood spilled, and outright coverups and lies.
If any are to continue down the path in the LDS church at least do so honestly. Don't sugar coat things to help your conscience. I believe this is what causes many who leave the church to be quite angry.

I have to disagree....EVERY belief or non-belief takes criticism. I think mormons are some of the kindest people I have ever met but unfortunately they have been in the media alot lately because of the few "old school" mormons who still practive polygamy. That makes them the bullseye of an easy target.
On RS every faith gets alot of hatred thrown at it because the people/kids who do it are cowards hiding behind a veil of aninemity sp? and there are ALOT of trolls on RS also.
Don't feed to their egos they are just looking for any attention they can get.

You think it's hard being Mormon? Try being a Muslim! I'm not joking: Mitt Romney is a Mormon and he looks like he's got a good chance of getting the Republican nomination for president. How many centuries do you think it will be before a Muslim is president?
It's hard to be a different religion than the majority of people. But if you're are doing what you believe is right, then you just have to grin and bear it. Life isn't easy.

Its really a sad situation. I really feel that most Mormons are raised in the religion or the social pressure is just to much for them, so they are brainwashed because that is all they ever know or are pushed into acting on what others tell them is true about God, Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith ect.
I think that most of their beliefs are so FAR Fetched here's what happens...
1. So shocked of the weirdness of it! (Temple practices ect)
2. Think people are making it up. (garments, joseph a copy- cat mason, become as Gods)
3.The people trying to talk some sence into them are concerned that these mormons are blocking out EVERYTHING that someone says, that is backed up by facts from their own church, and instantly go on the defence big time!!

Because they have an odd view of things and ever changing history.
Because they have a prominent man running for president who is a member.
Because they claim beliefs others find odd or cult-like.
Because they have their fingers, financially, in MANY things so they are talked about often when it comes to those things and what they own or have major percentages of stock in,etc.
Because many, although nice people, can be very cocky and knowitall(ish) and some take offense to that kind of attitude.
Because all religions and beliefs get criticized at various points during the day, week, month, year, etc.

I think that they believe that it's assumed taht their beliefs are the truth, and EVERYONE knows it's the truth, and we Mormons believe as we do DESPITE knowing that it's not true, etc. Therefore, we are stupid or something for believing as we do, know ing it's a bunch of crap or someting like tat. And it's open season on stupid people.
But, it's like my daughter says:
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large goups. :-D

Jesus said this would happen. We would not be blessed if they didn't.
Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

It is very sad how people who claim to be followers of Christ bash other's religion. Last year we tried to reserve a youth camp, but because we were Mormon they wouldn't let us do it. It's is a very interesting thing to consider.

A "born again Christian" told me I'm 'hell bound' for being Mormon.
I just want to know when Christ came down and told her "Okay Oregon Flower, I give you the authority to judge others..."
