I'm traveling next week with an infant and a toddler and honestly just wanted to throw a diaper and my ID in my back pocket and not carry anything else on. If I just pack my laptop really securely in my checked suitcase, will the x-rays or anything else damage it? Thanks!

I would never put anything valuable in my checked suitcase. Laptap, camera, jewelry if you ever want to see it again. Wear a backpack and put your computer, wallet, diapers, ID, e-tickets, diapers, snacks for the kids stuff in there. Your hands will be free.

Good Luck)

I personally wouldn't check a laptop. Try not to check anything you need on a day-to-day basis or that you can't replace. Most of the time everything's fine, but once in a while flights are delayed/missed/canceled and your baggage still goes somewhere, without you, or is lost. And then it's a hassle to get back. Just my own little paranoia thing, lol.
Have a great trip!

If you want to take a chance on never seeing your laptop then go ahead. Lost luggage and items missing from luggage are the biggest complaints the airlines get. You should never pack anything in checked luggage that you can't stand to lose.

Just after the terrorist attacks when airlines banned all carry on baggage for a day or two i was stuck in America with my laptop. I packed it in a hard case suitcase (with alot of clothes padding it). It did not get damaged at all but i was worried. You should check with your airline first just in case.

Yes but I do not recommend it. Handlers toss luggage around, w/ no care at all. Plus the added factor that it may be stolen. Like by a handler or a random inspection person.

So it will do yourself good to keep it with you.

P.S. Your gonna need extra dipe's and a some pacie's

No, no damage but I would not put a laptop in your checked luggage.
There's a good chance it could be damaged and the airlines will not in most cases cover for the loss. Don't think it's worth the risk.

i traveled with my laptop in 2005. i put it in my checked luggage. you will be risking the fact that they handle checked luggage very roughly and it could damage your laptop. putting my laptop in my luggage caused them to manually go through my luggage both going and coming. the luggage went through xray and because i had the laptop in my luggage forced a red flag to go up. so they manually went through my luggage and left a note inside my luggage telling me so. my comb and brush and few other toileteres were missing after their search. they either through them out or they fell out while they were searching my luggage for the laptop. good luck ....

I wouldn't risk it, but if you packed well, it'd probably be alright.
