Wanting to be good is a wonderful first step. Thank you for sharing this with us. We who are believers will be praying for you to stay on this journey.
But as some have already said, none of us can be good enough to meet God's standard of absolute perfection. The solution is Jesus Christ! He came to this world and willingly gave His life for all of us--folks just like you and me. And don't let your past stop your future. Take a look at First Corinthians chapter 6. I doubt you were in the same boat as those folks! They probably were on the "least wanted list" of society, but were on the "Most Wanted" by Jesus! What made the change? Faith in Jesus Himself, that's what did it.
So to solve the whole problem, just tell God Himself what's on your heart. Use your own words to explain how you feel, that you know you couldn't ever be good enough to make it on your own, and that you would like to receive His gift of salvation. I guarantee you, if you mean business with God, He will give you a peace in your heart that NOTHING will ever take away. God bless you, and I hope you make the best decision.

The only thing you have to do to go to heaven is accept Jesus Christ into your life. God is who can give the best present of all, which is going to heaven. Don't worry about being a bad or good person because if you start serving God all of that will change. God is the one that can change and he will if you ask him. So, take a chance because you will never ever be sorry for it. I promise everyone will be able to see the change that God does on you.

I have learned it is not a matter of being good or religious. It is about a relationship with Jesus Christ. God knows you better than you know yourself. You must turn from your evil ways. One can not serve two masters. To know you should be a good person and allow God to make you what He wants you to be. There is no I in "Jesus" there is an "us". You can do nothing apart from Him. The Bible is the love letters left to us from our maker. Read it everyday even if it is just a verse or two. May I suggests The Bible in a Year.

I think you should try unity Church, to you have one close? They are kind of Christian but not into hellfire and damnation. They are much more into the love that Jesus taught, they like good people and they are good caring people. They give each other support and love. And that sounds like something you need a lot of right now. (I am not an apologist for unity Church, I don't even go there). Good luck. And love.

If you say that your life is so bad at the moment then do you know that it is sin that has separated you from God and do you want to be reconciled to him?
Do you know that the only way to the Father is through the saving blood of Jesus Christ?
We have to repent of the sin in our life, meaning to turn away from it and turn to God.
Pray this prayer, But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
God listens to the prayers of those who seek after him.
God is not willing that any should perish.
Pray, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness.

People really screw other people's heads up with the whole Christianity thing.
I'll simplify it.
Heaven is a lot like graduating from high school.
Follow the rules, learn from your mistakes and respect the principal and you graduate.
Ignore the rules, pretend the principle does not exist and that the rules are dumb so you aren't making any mistakes and you will end up being expelled.
If you fail to respect and believe in your teachers (Christ, God, the Holy Spirit) you can't graduate.
If you refuse to learn from your mistakes when the teachers correct you, you can't graduate.
You can't graduate by just following the rules. You can't graduate by kissing up to the teacher. You can't graduate without learning.
The whole thing is really simple.
God Bless.

Neither.
Christ has already paid for your sins. If you try to get into heaven by being good enough you'll never make it.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Goodness should always be strived for. Since you are aware of your desire to be good, that can only mean that you are trying to be a good person. And more than likely, I'll put money on it, you are a good person.
Just remember to always strive for goodness and you will never go wrong.

Click on the Get Saved button @ http://www.geocities.com/my_brother_martin/ if you want to find out what is necessary and not necessary to get to Heaven.
In answer to your question about being a good person, when God saves you, He gives you his Holy Spirit. One of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to free you from the power of sin and to start making you more like Jesus on the inside. It isn't like Cinderella's fairy godmother waving a magic wand or anything like that. It's just that over time your tastes change and you enjoy doing good things that please God and don't enjoy doing things that He doesn't like you to do.

The Bible says that we cannot be saved by our good works. We are saved through faith in what Jesus Christ has done for us.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 4:6
Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Your good works or your desire to do good works will not save you. The only way to be saved is through faith in Jesus Christ. If you need more information on how to be saved email me.
