In Christian society this sort of thing tends to create dramas of repentance and re-dedication. It may be a cause of the feeling that our congregation are true Christians but those at the church down the road are not.

In general society it may effect the need to see their morality legislated both in the past and present.

I see you didn't get any answers I agree with so here's mine.

All sin is not equal in God's eyes.
The 'logic' of hell in the bible is simple: You receive back the treatment/effects you gave others with some kind of multiplier effect. [The bible is full of images of this reciprocity concept: reaping what you sow, being paid back, suffering loss as you had done to others, unkindness for unkindness shown, apathy for apathy rendered, 'eye for an eye', proportional judgment, etc]

All sin is only equal in the sense that all sin prevents you from entering The Kingdom of God.

You just need to acknowledge your own need -- in effect, giving up your "honor" -- by admitting that you need God's help to pay the debt and accepting the gift of salvation.

I'll tell you what, as a Catholic it made me insane, never being sure if I'd committed a "mortal sin" or not!

But I'm not sure how many other people really think this way. I'd think the real impact on society is somewhat limited.

Makes sense.
(To a delusional slave)
Have you ever noticed that not only are all "sins" equal, but the final punishment for every one of them is pretty f ucking uniform as well?
What a total and complete lack of f ucking creativity.

If you are guilty of one sin then you are guilty of all. God thought are higher than your thoughts.

Romans 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Romans 1:21-23 (King James Version)
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Well, obviously society doesn't agree. That's a good thing.

they pay more attention to modern health/wealth teachings and ignore the basic message and concepts of Jesus

society is caring less and less about "sin" and offending those who basically go around telling others what offends them and try to control other's behaviors with their own convictions
