Christmas is in the middle of the coldest months because of economic reasons. Feudal lords used to have feasts and give presents of food so their serfs/slaves would live through the winter.

Christmas, and the pagan holidays before them, were life giving occasions since without the feasts and gifts of food the people would have starved to death.

God took this economic/pagan mess and turned it into something that glorifies God.

I think x-mas is the spirit of christmas giving. It's not what you get in packages and boxes. Its the time that you spend with your family ( or who you call you family you spend time with). I will be w/ my b/f family for x-mas and I look over the years and think wow i've grown up. I think people who have to get that certain something who don't end up getting it realize in the end of the world materials things won't matter. It won't matter that you got your favorite dvd season. I think that is what x-mas is truely all about.
