Not really.

It seems that Mr Gibson has broken away from the Catholic Church and joined a "Traditional Catholic Church" that rejects some of the teachings of the "real" Catholic Church.

In fact he has donated millions to help finance building a "Traditional Catholic Church" in Agoura Hill, California.

This church is not recognized by the Catholic Church because it does not acknowledge the authority of the pope or the Vatican.

If Mel Gibson received a valid baptism then he is a member of the universal church known as the Catholic church. Unless he has send a letter to the bishop of his dioceses giving his intentions to renounce his union with the church then he is still considered a catholic no matter what agenda he is pushing. At worst he would be considered not in communion with the Church.

Yes. Mel Gibson is an Australian who suffered a vicious beating in his youth. A RC priest paid for his plastic surgery on the condition he would always be faithful to the RC church. So it is true he is RC. He had a RC wife and some 6 kids though I believe he is supposed to have cheated a lot.

He's an Orthodox Catholic, old school. He's actually American but moved to Australia as a child and grew up there.
