Very bad for Jews as it spells the end of Judaism in that family far more often than not. Aside from that, it is a Torah prohibition.

Well, my first husband was Jewish, and I am not. We did the best we could to blend our holidays, his father was in a mixed marriage as well to his second wife, so the family in general was more open to it than they may have been if that weren't the case. We discussed between us how we would raise our children if we had any, I didn't have a problem with the idea of joining a reform congregation if it had come to that. Apart from all that, religion wasn't really much of a problem to either of us, he wasn't Orthodox, with his step mom being a former Catholic he was accustomed to a blended household, and I had left Catholicism. It really depends on the two people involved how they want to work it out.... sometimes one partner or the other is willing to convert in order to provide a unified background for the children, other times neither person in the relationship sees it as all that important, it depends on your needs, and whether the relationship is solid enough, that applies not only to religion, but all other facets of the marriage..........(religion had nothing to do with why he was my first husband...)

Not being Jewish, I fail to see the need to have an opinion.

in ideal circumstances its preferable for jewish people to marry other jews.

and on a social level its problematic as well.

but on a personal level, ... it just doesn't always work out that way.
