My truck was hit while I was asleep and I only woke up to my nieghbor banging on my door to let me know he saw it happen. Well the car that hit my truck couldn't drive anymore so he left it parked took the keys and ran off. I called the cops as soon as my nieghbor woke me up and they came out but on the police report all they have on there is the guys name, address, VIN and tag number and no insurance info. I tried calling my insurance rep. and he told me he couldn't help me find out. The car is registered PA, and it happened in MD so I called the PA MVA and they told me they couldn't help me either. I tried looking up his info on the internet and even called a lawyer in which the lawyer told me my ins. rep. should be helping me find out, but no 1 is. I need help finding out how I can get his insurance info. that no one is willing to help find out? i also have he had a passanger in his car and her name is on the report but i was told if i called her then i could be charged w/harasment

So am I completely out of my deductible that I had to pay? And what about the money that my ins co. is out of for paying the rest of the damage? I never had to file a claim before and this was my first one since I have had insurance in the past 5 years and I don't have tickets or anything so why isn't my insurance not willing to help me or trying to? And I think it bugs me the most is because I just bought a brand new truck 2 months ago and someone had hit it and had the nerve to just run off.

You lawyer is right, your insurance company should be helping you find out who did this. Get your vehicle fixed, they will go after the guy who hit your vehicle and get their money back and yours as well. Don't even think for a minute that they are going to just sit around and pay out money without going after the guy. They do have the resources and contacts to catch this guy and have him brought to justice. As far as his passenger. You can have her subpoenaed to appear in court because she has the information on who hit your truck . I'm pretty darn sure your insurance will go after her too to find out information. Insurance companies have their own investigators to find out information as well.

UPDATE

If your insurance is not helping you, get a lawyer involved, He will light a fire under their feet. You are paying for their service. When all of this is done, I suggest you change insurance companies.

Go back to the store where you did all this If the person didn't have insurance they would have simply left due to the fact that they should have not been there(because the car should have not been on the road) and there by you would not have hit them kinda deal. Yea hope for that cause other then them not having insurance your pretty much messed up. But yea go back to the store where it happened and ask around. If they did make a deal out of it they have made a report or have left there info. Note a parking lot is private property and there for there are some interesting rules depending on the state. If you are in trouble contact a attorney and see what they can do. It is worth the couple hundred it may cost. Goodluck

Your insurance company has the resources to find this person. Pay the deductible and get yours fixed, then your insurance will go after the person to get their money and yours back. If you are not getting cooperation from your local agent, call the main office and complain. They should be helping you.

But if you have his name and address, just send him a bill for your damages and ask him to contact your insurance company with his insurance information.

If the state where the accident happened is a "no fault" state, then yes, I believe you will be out of your deductible.
The problem will have to be settled according to MD law.
What also comes into play here is did you have uninsured/under-insured coverage on your policy?
If you have one of the better insurance companies they will take care of you. So leave the owner/driver of the other car alone. That is one reason we have insurance, they provide us lawyers who go to court to get their (and our) money back.

I don't know what the rules are in MD. But in CA, if you were hit by a hit and run driver and you have a full coverage policy (and you have a police report), the damage to your vehicle will be covered by your "uninsured motorist" coverage and your deductible waived. What you should do is read and understand what your policy states. It is always good to know what's covered and what is not.
