Mine used to come from the shoulders. Everything I did was powered by my shoulders (I boxed and ran and snowboarded....)
Now it all comes from the legs and sciatica, since I started surfing 10 years ago. The paddling changed my body center.
has this happened to you? I feel kinda scared.
Like I can't defend myself if needed anymore.........

Martial arts power comes from proper execution of the forms or kata of your art.
If you have the proper alignment, body mechanics etc, you will generate tremendous power.

My strength comes from my whole body. When preforming a strike my whole body is involved in it. The lower body and upper body all move.
But do you know what makes a martial artist really good? Technique. All the strength in the world wont save you if you can't do a technique properly.

You should seek a balance. However, for martial arts (the catagory this is posted in) the most important thing is balance and leverage, so lower body would actually be more important than upper.

Actually, I think my lower body is way stronger, partly because I feel more comfortable kicking than punching, and partly because I am a Tae Kwon Do student, where we focus more on legs than hands!!
Cheers!!!!

Core strength is essential to martial arts. Work on that and everything will fall into place for you.

Both- it depends on who you are.
Your legs are nothing with out your arms, and your arms are nothing without your legs.
I would say both because i do karate- There is alot of kicking and punching involved

Truthfully...your "strength" comes from With-in. Start to believe you can fail = you can fail to be strong , when needed.
Think more positively and strive to achieve your Goal...!
