Today two religious (I shall not say which religion) people came to my door, after a short chat I asked him a question, which he couldn’t answer.
They said they would return after looking into to it.
The question was, why was Adam and Eve allowed to live?
The bible has many stories where God destroyed wicked nations and cities because of disobedience and other reasons.
Why did he not kill Adam and Eve and start again?
Also why did he not then kill Satan and stop sin, then create a new man and woman?
After all sin did start started with the Original Sin, after which people did die of disease and hunger etc etc.
Couldn’t all this not have been prevented?
If this had been done it seems to me a world without sin would be perfect.

EDIT
The Answers I have been given are mostly educated and useful (some funny)
But many millions of innocent people from different denominations have suffered through disease and cruellty and I feel God is just not as merciful as some say. And if he hadn't the need to prove a point, then it would have been perfect. Is that not what the end of the story is meant to be anway? Thanks

Answer: " To the first human pair, Adam and Eve, God stated, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the domestic animals, and all the living things that crawl on the earth!” (Gen. 1:28, AT) That this is God’s purpose regarding the earth is also made clear at Isaiah 45:18, where we are told that God formed the earth to be inhabited.
Just because they sinned did not mean that he was going to go back on his Command, afterall he clothed them when they found themselves to be Naked.
Satan’s purpose was to turn humankind away from God, so as to serve Satan’s selfish ends. The Devil’s course of action makes it apparent that he called into question the truthfulness of God, as well as mankind’s need to depend upon God and look to him for continued life and happiness. Implicit in Satan’s course is his questioning God’s right to rule and his manner of ruling. Jehovah is committed to the principle of ruling in righteousness and of having creatures serve him willingly out of love for him and for righteousness. On the other hand, Satan has taken the position that selfish gain is the more desirable motive. In other words, he contends that all intelligent creatures should be and are as selfish as he is.
Of course, Jehovah God could have executed Satan and the first human pair as soon as they transgressed. But because of the issues Satan had raised, and out of mercy for Adam’s yet unborn offspring, God permitted the Devil to live and try to prove his boastful challenges. At the same time, Jehovah thereby gave those of mankind who wanted it the opportunity to try to rule themselves apart from God and his righteous principles.

The reason they could not answer you is that the common interpretation of Genesis 1 ~ 3 is at variance with the text.
In Hebrew Genesis 2v7, Adam is made as a 'living soul' and in 2v17 he is warned that rebellion would lead to instant death and in 3v7 they rebelled. In my opinion, this sequence of events shows that Adam and his wife became 'dead souls' immediately they rebelled. So, my answer to your first question is that Adam and Eve committed spiritual suicide when they rebelled against God.
I think God did not wipe them out and start again because he deliberately wanted to create a situation where mankind would have the choice to follow him or not, just as they chose. As far as I can see, this is still the will of God right now.
Your comment about disease etc. We were created physically mortal, else why would God have offered Adam the choice of the other tree, the Tree of Life so that he could live forever if he chose to? Hence, disease and death are part of the created order that Adam chose to continue with because he chose not to eat of the Tree of Life. (Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!)
Yes, all this could have been prevented. All this is a consequence of free will and a free choice.
If the world was created without free will etc and sinless, no one would have any choice to follow God or not. This only goes to show that we are highly regarded by our Creator, otherwise he would not allow a situation where we continue to have such a choice.
I thought majeed's answer very interesting in parts. Particularly the part about original sin being an invention. I agree, 'original sin' certainly isn't in the bible, let alone in Genesis. On other points we differ, but an interesting read.

Would you kill your own two children or loved ones for doing wrong ...They weren't wicked , they were -disobedient..
Disease and hunger and such should tell a simple human something is very wrong with humans relationship with God..
And he could have destroyed satan you're right , and everything could be perfect , but then we would never ,ever know to what lengths God would go to ' show us ' how much He loves us , there would then have been no need for giving up his one and only. Son.....
There is an old saying :
God does not love us because Christ died for us ....
Christ died for us because God loved us.....
Good question , alot of thought went into it I can see !

My thought on the sins of Eve.
The Man, he, his and him were evicted. There is nothing that says Eve left with him. The question was asked. If she didn't leave with him, how could they have had children?
Well what if she stayed in the garden till she had a gutful of right and wrong. Then when she was as lonely as Adam once was in the garden alone, she took to the river, then wandered the wilderness till she found Adam.

God let them live little longer so that you and I could be here today.
Also they supported Satan's accusation that God was a bad ruler. God let them live on in order for it to be proved for all eternity that Jehovah is the best ruler there is.
We are all witnesses to the fact that disobedience to God has terrible consequences. So next time anyone raises the question as to whether God is good ruler, everyone else will shout "Shut up!!!"

There would never be a world without sin. We were created in Gods image, but obviously there were still faults if humans gave into temptation and sinned. God chose the punishment for Adam and Eve when they disobeyed Him. He obviously had a reason for not simply killing them, although the Bible does not say why He chose to banish them from the garden instead of killing them. God allows Satan to tempt us as said in the Bible. During the End times is when Satan will be banished to the lake of fire for eternity. That was not the End times. That was the beginning.

Adam and Eve did die...they are not living today are they?
It was smart on God's part not to destroy Satan and all those who rebelled. By allowing it to continue, he was able to prove that Satan was wrong in questioning God's right to rule...his sovereignty.
The nice thing is the problems we have as a result are temparary. Soon God WILL step in and put things back as they were meant to be.

GOD could've killed them and started over, yes. But you have to understand that GOD is perfect, HE makes no mistakes. GOD created sin for a reason. It was HIS will for the adam and eve incident to happen the way it did. HE wanted us all to start our lives here on earth and go through this struggle as a test. It seems like HE wants us to learn some things through self experience, which builds character and makes us even more realer. A world without sin? Thats heaven. We have to start here and earn our way up to the place we want to be forever. Make sense? Satan begged GOD for a chance to show HIM that mankind would not be grateful.

That's why most major denominations make people study theology and apologetics before they are allowed to engage in evangelism.
My friend wanted to convert to my denomination. In the initial interview with the priest, he asked for information on the faith so that he could show it to his dad. The priest sent him home, and explained, "If that's what you plan to do after converting, we would rather you just remained in your own denomination."
As for your question,
1) Adam and Eve is a philosophical myth. People only read it as literal history because it happens to occur at the beginning of the book.
2) Adam and Eve repented, just like the Assyrians in the book of Jonah. God never destroyed repentent nations, and even says "I do not desire the death of the wicked."

Adam and Eve did this world and all of us a huge favor by sacrificing their own bliss to allow Gods plan to go forth by partaking of the fruit.
We needed opposition. We needed this world to fall so that we could be born and grow and learn. What kind of people would we be if we all just walked around with goofy smiles on our faces never having to face any type of opposition. How much could we really grow, or even be tested?
There was no original sin. Adam and Eve did what they were suppose to do and for that we should be grateful to them and not condemn them.
