No-one owns any of the land or waters in Antarctica. All territorial claims are in abeyance while the Antarctic Treaty operates. The Treaty recognises no claims. Australia has claimed a big chunk of Antarctica and maintains stations to support its claims but is a keen member of the Antarctic Treaty nations and is not pushing any claims.

Australia does own the waters around its Antarctic Islands - Macquarie, Heard and Macdonald - as these are part of Australia.

The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary has been declared and is supported by all Antarctic Treaty nations except Japan. Japan hunts for whales in the Sanctuary.

This is going to end up in a big political mess.
RUSSIA lays claim to all the water.because they
planted a flag? or something.AUSTRALIA says
NO and is ready to defend it's water and cost as far as the 10 mile limit.THE water way was never
of any concern.till the ice cap started to melt and RUSSIA moved in to claim all mineral wrights.the
USA is kinda in the middle.
