I have cared for a stray cat who was pregnant. I allowed mother with newborns to stay inside. After 2 months, I put all cats outside. Shortly after I kept one of the kittens as a pet. The others were adopted and the mom became pregnant again. She is no longer fed and cared for by me. Still pregnant, whenever the mother comes near her kitten she hisses at her. Why is this?

Why on earth didn't you spay this cat? You may think that you were good to allow her indoors but any good you did for her and the kittens is completely cancelled out with the fact that you continued to allow her to breed. If money is an issue why didn't you call a local no kill shelter to pick her and the kittens up? They would have spayed and neutered all of them.

This is normal. If your kitten is weaned, she is basically "grown up" in the feline world. So mommy is saying, "Ok, I have fed you, licked your butt, and cleaned you. I have cared for you. Now, you are old enough to start taking care of yourself. You do not need my milk anymore cause you have teeth now."

Not only that but cats go by smell so if she smells a scent she does not recognize she will hiss.

Of my many cats I always see the mother cats hiss at their children and others. It is a way of saying, "Time to grow up and no I will not give you milk because you don't need it anymore."

Sometimes it is for dominance. The mother cat might also hiss or any cat to show the kitten its place in the heirachy.

Alpha Cat is the cat that can tell ALL the cats what to do but they can NOT tell it what to do. Second below is the one who can tell others below it what to do but cannot tell the Alpha Cat to do. This pattern continues as the lower you go the less cats have authority to tell others what to do. So the last cat has to do all the others say but cannot tell anyone what to do.

So let's say someone has 7 cats.

Georgie, Blackie, Mittens, Pepper, Rozie, Sandy, and Polly

Polly is the Alpha Cat she can tell Georgie, Blackie, Mittens, Pepper, Rozie, and Sandy what to do BUT then can NOT tell her what to do.
Mittens is the second in command. She can tell Sandy, Rozie, Pepper, Blackie, and Georgie what to do. However, she can NOT tell Polly what to do.
Pepper is next. He can tell Sandy, Rozie, Blackie, and Georgie what to do BUT he can NOT tell Polly nor Mittens what to do.
Rozie. She can tell Blackie and Sandy and Georgie what to do. However, she can NOT tell Polly, Mittens, nor Pepper what to do.
Blackie can tell Sandy and Georgie what to do. However, he cannot tell Rozie, Pepper, Mittens, nor Polly what to do.
Sandy can tell Georgie what to do but she can NOT tell Rozie, Polly, Mittens, Pepper, or Blackie what to do.
Finally the servant cat Georgie can NOT tell anyone what to do. He is at the bottom and Rozie, Sandy, Polly, Mittens, Pepper, and Blackie can tell him what to do.

This hierachy doesn't bother cats; it gives them assurance of their place...even if they are Servant Cats and not Alpha Cat. So each cat tries to fight for its place to either be Alpha Cat or to be the Servant Cat or somewhere in the middle.

The kitten still has your scent on it, and she's focused on the fact that she is now pregnant again. If you decided to harbor the mother again, please call the local shelter to tell them you let her have her kittens indoors and would like for her to be taken (to be fixed and for the babies to be adopted) when they're of 'legal' age.
