It's a rhetorical term that Creationists have adopted in their assault on education. They create the illusion of parity by making it appear to be a debate between Creationists and Evolutionists, rather than between scientists with extensive experimental and observational data and a fringe group who believe in an 18th Century doctrine regarding the inerrancy of a 17th Century translation of a collection of stories written down over nearly a millennium, almost two millenniums ago.

Dude i no this one, even though I'm only 14. An evolutionist is a person that believes in darwin's theory... that is they believe that we eveolved from apes and was not created by god. There is alot of debate on this issue, because the religuose people obvuiosly hate it. But the scientist agree with this idea because, well, its logical. Now dont get me wrong, I believe in god and stuff, but i also believe in darwin...the prove is rite there in the musems and in history.

this is the webster's definition:
"a student of or adherent to a theory of evolution"
notice it says "a" not "the", meaning there could be (and there are) more than one theory. even though the darwin theory is 99% proven, and most scientists think it's a given, some people believe in other evolutionary theories. scientologists belive we evolved from some kind of clam.

It's a Christian term for those that accept scientific evidence about evolution. Basically a pitiful attempt to make science into a belief system.

I'm guessing it's someone who believes in the theory of evolution. Or I suppose it can be someone who's devotes themselves as an occupation to the study of evolution.
