Everyone plz give me your own definition of "haram"...thanks

I define "haram" like this...
Haram is something that...
1.makes you forget about Allah,
2.takes you away from his path,
3.makes you forget about the real life(hereafter)
4.makes you feel that this worldly life is so beautiful

Allah said in The Quran " i only created Jinn and man to worship me"
so, i believe things like " love"(attraction to the opposite gender) is haram too(including loving your own wife/husband).Because it wil never benifit me in the hereafter, since its not a form of worship. And it makes you forget about Allah and hereafter.Noone is worthy of getting more attention then Allah!

(non-muslims, plz dont answer this question, thanks)

From the Qur'an:

"And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect. " 30.21

"It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to Allah their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful." " 7.189

"And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided. " 3.13

Allah created love, and He gave it to us as a sign and a mercy. Calling it haram is just plain wrong.

Also:

"O ye who believe! make not unlawful the good things which Allah hath made lawful for you, but commit no excess: for Allah loveth not those given to excess." 5.87

It's wrong to say something (such as love) is haram when Allah has made it lawful and good.

Define Haram

Praise be to Allah
Haraam is that for which the one who does it will be punished and the one who abstains from it will be rewarded, if the reason for his abstinence is following the prohibition of Allaah.
'i believe things like " love"(attraction to the opposite gender) is haram too(including loving your own wife/husband).Because it wil never benifit me in the hereafter, since its not a form of worship. And it makes you forget about Allah and hereafter.Noone is worthy of getting more attention then Allah!'
2nd part of your question:
You misunderstood!
Islam teaches us to be truthful and realistic. Usually, we love because of Allah and we hate because of Allah. Islam teaches us that a male and female can build up a good relationship founded on marriage. All those stories of media and movies are not helpful to make a person comply with the teachings of Islam.

We do not say love is halal or haram because it is a feeling. Maybe it is not under control. You can judge what is under control. But people who fall in love are in many episodes away from the cleansed and pure atmosphere.

Marriages that are usually good and lasting marriages are those that start at the least affection. That affection grows after marriage and maybe it will grow until the couples continue their companionship at the Jannah.

And Allah knows the best!
Jazakallah!

Salam bro. You have to learn the fiqh proper to define what haram or forbidden means.

For sufis, there are also different levels of haram according to ones spiritual station.

But for the masses, the shariah applies.

You can't say that loving your spouse is haram. The Arabs have a saying that Love of Allah and His Messenger is in the heart, while love of wife and children is in the liver.

Loving the family as the head of the family for Allah's sake can't be called haram.

Allah Taala has reminded the Holy Messenger and us by telling and asking us, who is it that makes it haram what Allah Taala has made it halal.

Islam is not taking Quran and Hadis and interpreting it according to what we think is right or wrong. All the principles have been laid out by the scholars, that's why it is wajib to study fiqh to be a true Muslim!

Haram means (taboo)
worship means to observe and obey God and to know him,I didn't find in the Quran any thing of what you said,in fact to the contrary of that .Allah wants you to live your life normally and enjoy it but for your own good refrain from doing some things which are bad for you and the others, these things are called Haram,so as to what you were saying attraction to the other gender is not haram as long as it ends the legal way i.e marriage and it 'll benefit you in the hereafter because God ordained marriage and thus you're obeying God,and obeying him is worshiping him.

Haram means anything that is Forbidden in Islam.

Not only the meat or Alcohol is haram in Islam but there are several other acts or behaviors which are considered to be haram and are clearly mentioned in the Quran.
He hath forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swineflesh, and that which hath been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful".[Qur'an 2:173]

-Shirk is considered haram and is the most forbidden act in Islam."Say: I am forbidden to worship those on whom ye call instead of Allah. Say: I will not follow your desires, for then should I go astray and I should not be of the rightly guided."
-It is also haram to be a hypocrite in Islam. People that go around committing acts of violence, consuming alcohol or doing forbidden things and claiming that they are a Muslim are considered hypocrites. They insult what Islam really is and are not easily forgiven by God, but it is forgiven.

Adultery is also very sinful in Islam and is considered haram. It is forbidden in Islam for a man and a woman to have an illicit relationship and to have sex outside of marriage. This means no married man or woman can have an illicit relationship with someone other than their spouse and no form of homosexuality is allowed which is also haram."And come not near unto adultery. Lo! it is an abomination and an evil way." [Qur'an 17:32]

Wearing revealing clothes is also considered haram. Women and even men have a duty to be modest in Islam and it is forbidden to wear clothes that accentuate the body.
Any act of violence, theft, threatening to hurt someone, fraudulent behavior or being untruthful is also haraam and extremely forbidden in Islam. Islam means peace and people that act in such a way are considered disbelievers.

One shall not say anything Haram directly without getting him or herself educated about the subject, because calling anything haram, which might not have considered to be haram in Islam, is a big sin, that you are calling something Haram which Allah and his Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) has made it halal upon you. So I believe one should be very sure and strict before labelling anything with Haram.

Now this is how I understand Haram, ~!

as Sarah said, your definition is WRONG, if you cant answer that simple question i dont think you should be answering such complex questions on this website.

"4.makes you feel that this worldly life is so beautiful"- alhamdulillah Allah didnt create this world ugly, brother.

"if you dislike them (i.e. your wives), it may be that you dislike something and God brings about through it a great deal of good." (4:19) ----you wont even like you wife, astagifullah--"haram too(including loving your own wife/husband)." (what you said)

why would Allah want us to get married if, love which is a part of marriage, were are haraam are you effing listening to yourself?

i feel bad for your future wife...

back to your question, what is my definition of haraam. my opinion doesn't matter, haraam standards have already been set:

حرام - forbidden!

a list of haraam things:

Haram - (Arabic) Not lawful according to Islam. Engaging in an act that is Haram (i.e. eating food like pork, drinking alcohol, having sex outside of marriage) would lead to punishment in the next life, and maybe even in this life.

Question:
what is definition of haram &halal?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Haraam is that for which the one who does it will be punished and the one who abstains from it will be rewarded, if the reason for his abstinence is following the prohibition of Allaah. The halaal is that in which there is no sin in doing it and no sin in not doing it, but if a person intends to enhance his obedience to Allaah by doing it, then he will be rewarded for this intention.

Dictating what is halaal and what is haraam is the right of Allaah alone. There are people who make halaal some of that which Allaah has forbidden, and people who make haraam some of that which Allaah has permitted. Some people invent acts of worship which have not been prescribed by Allaah and which in fact He has forbidden. The asl al-deen or basic principle of religion is that the halaal is that which Allaah and His Messenger have permitted, and the haraam is that which Allaah and His Messenger have forbidden. The religion is that which Allaah and His Messenger have prescribed. No one has the right to go beyond the limits of the Straight Path with which Allaah sent His Messenger. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious)”

[al-An’aam 6:153]

Allaah mentions in Soorat al-A’naam, Soorat al-A’raaf and elsewhere the things for which He condemns the mushrikeen (polytheists, those who associate others in worship with Allaah), which is that they made haraam things which Allaah had not forbidden, such as the baheerah and saa’ibah (camels to which certain taboos were attached for the sake of their idols), and they permitted things which Allaah had forbidden, such as killing their children, and they prescribed in their religion things that Allaah had not permitted. So Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Or have they partners with Allaah (false gods) who have instituted for them a religion which Allaah has not ordained?

[al-Shooraa 42:21]

These things included things that are haraam in and of themselves, which they made into acts of worship, such as shirk (associating others in worship with Allaah) and things which are obscene, such as performing Tawaaf around the Ka’bah naked, etc.

Yikes, your definition is just simply wrong. Haram is simply something that is forbidden. Allah swt did not give us specific reasons some things are forbidden and did get specific about some other things.
Allah swt gave us pleasures on this earth too so loving your spouse is not haram. What is haram is saying that love is haram! Loving my husband does not make me forget about Allah. Actually my husbands love for me is a reminder to me of Allah swt and His grace and mercy He has bestowed upon me. My husband is a reminder to me of our deen and encourages me in praise and worship of Allah swt. My marriage insha Allah will benefit me in preparation for the hereafter.
Friend you need to do some more reading.

The word "haram", to me, simply means anything that is deemed unlawful in the Quran and by our prophet Muhammad (pbuh). MashAllah, there are some great answers here.

Peace!
