Atheism was the policy of the Soviet Union for 50 years so there might be some historical validity to connecting the two.

I think americans associate atheism with far left liberalism more often.

Having associations with certain words doesnt mean you believe it is true or think all atheists are communists. Some words just bring other words to mind even if they dont always go together. When a lot of people hear California they think far left state when in fact much of it is very conservative. They are just associations. People arent stupid or ignorant just because they have word associations. Communistic gvts did try to stop religious freedom. There is a perfectly logical reason why people might associate atheism and communism.

I'm an American. I'm a Christian, but have lots of atheist friends and co-workers. Not a single one of them is a Communist. People might've somehow associated atheism with Communism in other historical times (perhaps even during the height of the Cold War), but I don't know any educated person who thinks that today.

I am Atheist, and also American. But the answer to your question is no. There are lots of atheists in the U.S., and even the people of the christian and other religions would give you the same answer as I did.
When you say communism, most Americans would generally think of former Soviet USSR, and former Chinese governments.
Have a good day

I don't. I know the difference.

Although communism tries to suppress religions of all kinds, atheism is a religion unto itself. It's an individual effort, and if you're an atheist, you are compelled to find ways of ignoring the overwhelming popularity of religion. The result is not a tyrannical governmnent but a dysfunctional person.

In the process, you have to build a faith of your own that you can hold on to when the rationality of your belief system is in question.

It wasn't purely Eisenhower, it became into each little thing from McCarthyism to the Reagan administration. The wealth of this usa prospers on worry (albeit, that wealth is retained by the precise 10th percentile). Capitalists say "commies are undesirable via fact they're undesirable for OUR freedom." human beings have this fake experience of patriotism the place they think of "our" is pertaining to all Amercians, while it rather is rather basically pertaining to the capitalist fat-cats who say this. Atheism became into (and nevertheless is, in some respects) often regarded down upon by classic American fee fans, so it rather is purely organic for those with funds to link it to their own political arch-enemy. something may well be used as an opiate of the folk, whether it rather is Christian or Atheist or Muslim or something. And, definite, Jesus is a Communist. examine the Bible and locate out for your self, in spite of the certainty that i'm confident you recognize. i'm a Catholic Anarcho-Communist. I examine Noam Chomsky. And, i won't be able to attend to head out of this usa... i actually won't be able to.

yrag, many Americans tend not to think outside of the small bubble they live in... which is why they get confused with any situation which is not Democratic (sic) white Anglo Saxon Protestantism and in English!

Thankfully they are not much of a majority yet, and many of the non stupid Americans are in fact atheists!
