Can I wish everyone here on Yahoo R/S a Merry Greedfest?
I was trying to think of a good label for the upcoming holiday since a few people that are christians asked me what do I call the holiday that they celebrate as christmas, and I came up with Greedfest.
Just think about it. It is truly ironic that Jesus' teaching was about avoiding the pitfalls of earthly treasures, yet the celebration of his birth is the largest trade of earthly treasure between humans.
So, let me know if you believe Greedfest is a great alternative name for the day otherwise known as christmas.

Well, current christmas doesn't have much to do anymore with the beginning of it!
the current christmas has to do with gifts, a tree, and lots of lights!
And if you're lucky it has to do with a stable....
But it no longer has anyhting to do with the birth of Jesus christ.
Jesus didn't really care about the day of his birth,
but catholics did.
So they made a feast out of it,
and western civilisation has turned it in the course of 30 years into a 'buy christmastree, lights, and gifts' fest!
Yet what it was intended for, remembering of the birth of Christ, has been forgotten.
And honestly, I don't know if Jesus cares all that much about remmebering his birthday, as much as He cares about you knowing God!
If you therefor remember christmas, and maybe don't have a fancy one, remember that Jesus came to this earth to help us to get to know God!
And if you really want to do something that Jesus asked, then do not remember his birth, but remember his death, like when he asked in the last supper, broke the bread and said:"his is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me"(luke 22:19).

I'll settle for Happy Winter. But those who want to wish me a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays are welcome also. There's nothing merry or happy about being greedy.

Your reports & observations with faith is amazingly actual and thanks to this why greater effective than 15% of yankee inhabitants are Atheists ! ! definite Bible is intolorent and hates and immediately condemns all people who dont have faith or carry on with it. that's amazingly disgusting that the Bible overtly preaches and spreads hatred. nicely this would nicely be genuine for different religions additionally who additionally propagate hate and violence. And what for ought to we have faith in a God whose existance cant be proved ! What for ought to we have faith in a GOD who's vengeful and threatens to break if one would not carry on along with his words ? There are dissimilar Gods who're in flow now and which one is to be popular & which one to not be and why ? while those contrdictions are spoke of by potential of a rational man or woman she or he revolts and that's the case with you. One would not turns right into a Atheist to get a NOBEL however the cirscumstances makes one so. merely seem at any any considerable worldwide problems you will detect a diffused non secular back floor in the back of it. If one follows humanism, righteousnss and is amazingly specific of the products and bads of the worldwide can actual rejoice with the worldwide greater effectual than any pseudo-religionist. come out of your melancholy you're actually not at fault yet your buddies and others quite have an rather parochial and primitive state of recommendations. they're in a convenience zone of non secular seem and then gives you them a definite cost ticket to heaven. So why ought to they hardship approximately you, your rationalism and all that stuff. And actual to remedy the concern we ought to reject those zealots thoroughly and the reasult is rising very quickly. save going you're on the dazzling song ! ! ! ! ! !

Your attitude is very cynicaal, even for an atheist.
Christmas is a holiday, and one that I enjoy spending with friend and family.
I also enjoy, stuffing my face until I burst, from eating delicious foods.
So take it for what it is, depending on what YOU believe, and go from there.
Sometimes we carry this Religious & Spirituality fight fest BS, just a step too far.
Merry Christmas, and a very, Happy New Year.

Originally, however, most Christians were actually pretty wary of christmas. The Germans were the only ones who really liked it, we get christmas trees from them.

Since it was (is) the heathen fesival of Saturnalia, celebrating the rebirth of the Sun, and Yahoshua had nothing to do with it..... It does seem that greedfest would be an appropriate name.
