Can I wish everyone here on Yahoo R/S a Merry Greedfest?

I was trying to think of a good label for the upcoming holiday since a few people that are christians asked me what do I call the holiday that they celebrate as christmas, and I came up with Greedfest.

Just think about it. It is truly ironic that Jesus' teaching was about avoiding the pitfalls of earthly treasures, yet the celebration of his birth is the largest trade of earthly treasure between humans.

So, let me know if you believe Greedfest is a great alternative name for the day otherwise known as christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS Timbers!

Well, current christmas doesn't have much to do anymore with the beginning of it!

the current christmas has to do with gifts, a tree, and lots of lights!

And if you're lucky it has to do with a stable....
But it no longer has anyhting to do with the birth of Jesus christ.
Jesus didn't really care about the day of his birth,
but catholics did.
So they made a feast out of it,
and western civilisation has turned it in the course of 30 years into a 'buy christmastree, lights, and gifts' fest!

Yet what it was intended for, remembering of the birth of Christ, has been forgotten.
And honestly, I don't know if Jesus cares all that much about remmebering his birthday, as much as He cares about you knowing God!

If you therefor remember christmas, and maybe don't have a fancy one, remember that Jesus came to this earth to help us to get to know God!

And if you really want to do something that Jesus asked, then do not remember his birth, but remember his death, like when he asked in the last supper, broke the bread and said:"his is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me"(luke 22:19).

I'll settle for Happy Winter. But those who want to wish me a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays are welcome also. There's nothing merry or happy about being greedy.

Your attitude is very cynicaal, even for an atheist.

Christmas is a holiday, and one that I enjoy spending with friend and family.
I also enjoy, stuffing my face until I burst, from eating delicious foods.
So take it for what it is, depending on what YOU believe, and go from there.
Sometimes we carry this Religious & Spirituality fight fest BS, just a step too far.

Merry Christmas, and a very, Happy New Year.

Originally, however, most Christians were actually pretty wary of christmas. The Germans were the only ones who really liked it, we get christmas trees from them.

Since it was (is) the heathen fesival of Saturnalia, celebrating the rebirth of the Sun, and Yahoshua had nothing to do with it..... It does seem that greedfest would be an appropriate name.
