Hospitals are only required to provide stablizing life saving treatment and only in emergencies. Which means, yes, they can and will refuse to give care for non payment or inability to pay. Even in the ER. If you go in and all you have is a head ache, they will scan you to make sure there isnt anything wrong and it really is a headache, then send you on your way with no treatment.

when you see a primary care provider or specialist, they expect their payment before you even get to the examination room. The ER on the other hand has to do something with you if you have an emergency, they treat illegal immigrants everyday in ER and know they will not get paid, they can in some cases send you to another hospital if there is still any county hospitals left in this country. I got ran over in 1996 with 4 broke limbs and only minimal vehicle insurance .. I was treated and ended up having 14 surgeries.. once the orthopedic operated on me he was obligated to continue to see me for follow-ups for up to 90 days. Luckily the Hospital wrote off all my surgeries. The doctor turned me over to collections , but that is no longer on my credit report. Even now I have insurance they make sure the insurance is going to cover any services before they treat me.. that is everyone but the ER

I believe by law a hospital must treat medical emergencies (such as homeless people, can't leave them dying on the street). But if you can't pay for other treatments (I see this is under the cancer category) I believe they can deny it. Nothing is free. If you don't have money or are low income, you may want to consider asking for government or charity assistance. Hope this helps.

Anyone uninsured can go to any ED and get treatment or else it would be considered negligence. A private practice can refuse services but can still call 911 if it is a true emergency, hope this helped.

Wow.
In Australia, like the UK, we have free hospital treatment.
If you have insurance you can choose your doctor and have a private room.
Most of our medicines are subsidised by the government.
