For a long time, it was Plasma. But in my several trips to electronics stores looking at TVs, the LCDs just look better nowadays. Brighter, crisper and clearer.

Each has pluses and minuses, the biggest being Plasma is cheaper in larger sizes. But LCDs keep improving and plasmas are pretty much stuck. I bet in 5 years you won't even seen plasmas sold any more.

Your best test is to go to the store and look at several TVs of each technology. Whichever ones have the pictures you find most pleasing is the one you should go with.

Alot of debate, I say LCD, My mom just got a 52" plasma tive for our living room and also a smaller 32" LCD for our back porch, the LCD is alot clearer!

the Plasma seems a little pixelized, if you know what I mean. Look at 2 side by side at Best Buy or something.

Plasma has more realistic color. LCD has no screen burn in. If you are just watching movies and regular TV shows. Plasma is fine. If you are watching sports and playing video games, I recommend LCD.
