According to Mormon doctrine, if a person did not have a chance, while in this life, to fully comprehend and understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ while living on this earth, they will get a chance to have the Gospel preached to them in the next life. They will have a chance to accept it there. If they do so, so much the better for them.
However, since they did not take the opportunity to receive of the saving ordinances of baptism, confirmation, etc while here on earth, that work will need to be completed vicariously for them. Following the doctrine of temple work for the dead as taught by the Apostle Paul, someone can do their temple work for your deceased friend.
Supporting Bible scripture to this doctrine:
1 Corinthians 15:29
John 5:25
Romans 14:9
Hebrews 11:40 (whole chapter)

I am sorry for your loss. I hope that you can feel her presence in the wind or in a forest. None of us can tell you absolutely where she is. I like to sometimes take myself far above the earth, mentally, and look down on it. And I realize that the earth is rarely ever really changing much at all, so all of the energy pretty much gets recycled. So, your friend is, in my opinion, still with us in some way or another. Just celebrate the life she had.
As far as her beliefs go, I would say that she was much more honest about the whole thing, since you said that she "was always questioning religious beliefs". That only means to me that it was important for her to find meaning and truth in this world. And nobody's going to go to hell for that.
And please, please, just ignore those judgemental people who simply say that if she didn't accept Jesus as her Lord and Saviour, she's doomed to hell forever. They simply don't know.

No, not necessarily. I'm Roman Catholic, but the principle isn't really about christmas or Easter or Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, etc. That's just all ritual traditions. I think it's rediculous myself. The only thing that matters is that you follow the principles that Jesus, the saints, prophets, etc. preached. As long as you follow the 10 Commandments, the golden rule, and try to do your best daily, no. I mean, to be completely honest with you, even a Satanist can go to heaven. From what I've read their religion isn't really all that bad either. Infact it has many good principles in it. So an athiest can go to heaven no doubt.

I am very sorry to hear about your friend. I would like to tell you that all good people go to heaven, but I can't. I also can not tell you if she is in heaven or hell. Only God knew what was in her heart. He is the one that spoke to her, it was up to her to listen. We can be sure that he gave her a chance even in those last moments to ask Christ to come into her heart. You know your friend better than I, but we can hope that she accepted and is waiting to meet you again some day. No matter what one person says one day about God or their faith, only God knows what they truely believe. The Bible tells us "ask and you shall be forgiven". I do hope your friend did just that, even if it was only in her last breaths. We dont get into heaven on 'works' or 'acts'. Sit down and talk to God, and ask him how she is. Say a prayer for her. Whatever you feel comfortable doing, but God will answer you, all in due time. Dont remember the things that you question about your friend, remember the good, and do good in rememberance of her. God will be with you. I hope this helps, good luck!

Only God knows this.
All the people who do not know anything about God make some ignorant statements. Being good does NOT get you into heaven.
The bible says that NONE are good, not one! Have you ever lied, cheated, stolen something? Everyone has done something wrong so we are all sinners, not good.
How can anyone say that there is no heaven or hell? Ignorance.

Regardless of your religion or religious beliefs, I believe that if any person on Earth does their best to treat others in a way in which they want to be treated. That is, if you love others and if you are good towards others, then, entry into Heaven or Hell will be a non-location concern.

it's a very hard message, it is indeed!
And I do sympathyse with you, for your friend!
But a time will come when you understand that it's not upto you to decide to go where you want to go.
God never intended hell to be a place for people to go to, and some people even not believing in jesus Christ (see people of the old testament) probably went to heaven!
God wanted noone to get lost, and I believe everyone who believes in the sacrifice Jesus made for us will be saved.
Either way, everyone dying wanting to go to Hell will be in hell.
But as for the remainder of those, there will be given extra grace, because God gave us (christians) this grace here on earth!
I do not believe God benefits with sending people to eternal condemnation.
Yet I do believe that people themselves are the source of choice!
If they radically say 'no!' to God, they will find themselves in hell....
Everyone is responsible for their own journey!
So are you for yours, and I for mine!
I'm not a judge, and neither is anyone on this forum,
So noone but God can answer that question.... At least, I know we can only suspect what happened, but what really happened only God knows!

You should honor your friend's memory by thinking of all of the good times you two shared together. I'm sure she would want you to be happy with the memories instead of worrying about her soul ending up in a place she didn't believe in to begin with.
I wish you comfort for the pain you still feel.

Ours is not to say if a person is in hell or not .What I will say is what the bible says about it.The book of Romans says that the wages of sin is death. the bible also says absent from the body present with the Lord.Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. The bible says that for you to go to heaven you must accept Christ as your savior not deny his existance. My heart go out to your friend but there is nothing you can do for her now because now is the time for salvation. If you wish to be with her than all you have to do is nothing but if you want to be with Christ and all of his glory accept him today and you can be saved.
love in Christ
