Saving Private Ryan is a very good movie, but at the same time, it is very gross and has a lot of gore. Another good movie is Full Metal Jacket. Don't forget Glory too, but I like WWII movies better than the Civil War or Vietnam.

Depends on what you're looking for.
"MASH" has a bit of humor
"Platoon" has an intelligent story amid a few brutal battle scenes
"Saving Private Ryan" shows the absolute brutality of war without any politics
"Tora! Tora! Tora!" shows the bombing of Pearl Harbor from both the US and Japanese points of view.
Then there's the this-time-we-win Vietnam movies of the 80s, like "Uncommon Valor" and the Rambo series.
My favorite is "Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam," a 90-minute documentary featuring real war footage, 60s music, and letters home from grunts as read by some very familiar actors.

Black Hawk Down is a good one - It starts off with a bit of talking, then goes straight into non-stop action for the rest of the movie.
Full Metal Jacket - Awesome first half hour, boring last half hour - practically no climax. But never mind that, everyone loves this movie anyway for its Parris Island section.
