Of course not. That is one of the more offensive features of that religion. If there actually were an allah that cared, it could do as it pleased; humans executing judgment are usurpers.
Postscript: I must comment on the previous response. It is simply wrong. Althoug Qur'an 2:256 says that "there is no compulsion in religion", it is nonetheless settled policy that apostates are fair game for anyone who wants to kill one.

Decent??? Not at all. If it was decent it wouldnt require death. But that goes back to the rules of Islam I think. If your changing your faith from Islam then you obviously dont believe you should die. I think it all goes back to the 'infidel's must die' in the Quaran, which would seem right to a lot of Muslims. But outside the Islamic faith it wouldn't seem decent at all. I hope this helps a little. Good luck!

No, there is no valid reason. All this religious nonsense borders on superstition and has no basis in objective logic. However, the easiest course is for an individual to go with ignorance and avoid the effort of study, which is a lot like work and not as much fun as beheading a bunch of Unbelievers.

yo heres the thing people twist the religion orite im muslim ok here what it says in the Quran: changeing faiths is frowned upon but acceptable HOWEVER if that indivisual starts to ridicule or make fun of Islam then they should be killed.
THAT ANSWER BRINGS US TO A MORAL QUESTION WHAT RIGHT DOES ANY ONE HAVE TO MAKE FUN ANY FAITH?
THE RIGHT ANSWER WOULD BE NONE.
DUNT GET TWISTED ISLAM ITS ABOUT PEACE. ISLAM MEANS PEACE/ SUBMISSION TO ALLAH (swt). IF YOU LEAVE ISLAM ALONE AND YOU WILL BE LEFT ALONE!!! THATS THE BASIC ANSWER!!!

No decent reason. The law of the koran is being interpreted in a strict way. To Westerners this is barbarism.

They feel like they're denying the "true God" so he must be killed for blasphemy...
Think, they wanted to kill a woman because she called a teddy bear Muhammad...imagine what would've happened if she spoke out agaisnt Islam saying it's not the true religion!

most religions have the death penalty for apostasy, when they can get away with it.
christians used to burn people for heresy (or even thinking about heresy in giordano bruno's case), jews called it blasphemy and punished it by stoning (which was rarely as much fun as it looks in 'the life of brian').
and believers will go to amazing lengths to protect their faith. jan hus was promised safe conduct if he would only visit constance (in switzerland) to discuss his criticism of the church with the pope. but as soon as hus arrived they burned him anyway, explaining that if you promise safe conduct to a heretic it doesn't count - because heretics are not real people.

It is a strong incentive to increase the population of the religion, and hence its strength. Cf. Catholicism.
