People become Holy by spending time with God reading the word helping others and accepting Jesus and Saviour and Lord.
Holiness is not a one shot deal the process of santifcation is a life long process striving to be holy being set apart for God.
The way to become like the Lord is to spend time with Him.

Becoming holy has to do with the Transformation Jesus was speaking about in the Sermon on the Mount. Holy is a reference to becoming "Whole."
The "Worship in Spirit" that Jesus spoke about brings that transformation. The whole thing is expalined very clearly in the resource below.
And please note, a mere change of belief or "being saved" is not a complete transformation... there is more to it than that.

We can not "become HOLY". Only GOD is HOLY. We can become Children of GOD by becoming Christians and live a Holy Life as HE expects us to do. Being Holy is when one obeys and follows the Laws of Moses in The Old Testament. Especially the hygiene laws.

Holy means set apart for God. Every Christian is called to be Holy.
Smoking injures the body. It is by its nature addicting, and should be put away. Especially since the Christian is no longer his/her own, but now belongs to God.
We were bought with a price...we should glorify God.

"holy" is another name for "wholly" committed to YHVH. Yes it is the "miracle of Godliness" Messiah in you the hope of glory. You are not to defile the "temple of YHVH" which temple you are, if you have accepted Him. (so no smoking)

Get saved. Then follow the will of God. Smoking has nothing to do with being Holy.
I use to smoke myself. Thankfully, God took it away from me. Don't miss it either. That was 12 years ago. Because of God, I was able to go "cold turkey". As one person told me, why would you want to smell like you are in hell when you are going to heaven?
