Yes. The most venerated human being who ever lived. Saint Mary has been revered by all churches as the Mother of Christ and unlike the belief of many she is venerated by many non catholics as the 'Bagarodzitza' or 'Mother of God' (Russian Orthodox) or the 'Astvatzamayr' (Armenian Apostolic). Saint Mary isn't actually a patron Saint in the traditional sense but is named after the places where she has made her apparitions e.g., our lady of Fatima, our lady of Lourdes, etc. The early church maintained the fact that she was born without original sin (Adam's sin) but it was not until the late 19 century when the Catholic church officially accepted her 'immaculate conception' through her apparition at Lourdes to St. Bernadette. That is what makes her different from all human beings- that God chose her and marked her out among women(and men) to be Blessed among all generations. But the real reason why Mary is above us all, is that she abandoned herself to the will of God and said the FIAT: FIAT MIHI SECUNDUM VERBUM TUUM which means let it be to me according to your will. The Acathiste is a very old book containing poems and prayers to the Blessed Virgin. It is the richest, most beautiful book of verses dedicated to Mary. The authors weren't catholic.

Of course she is !

She is the patron of usually where she has appeared.

Foe example, in Cuba, in the XVII century, after a storm, a group of three people at sea, saw an image that said: "Yo soy la Virgen de la Caridad" and since then she has been the Saint Patron of Cuba.

Her sanctuary is located at El Cobre, near Santiago de Cuba.

She was considered, during the independence war, a symbol of the Cuban nation, like the flag, the shield, and the anthem

Mary is definitely a Saint.

A Saint is an extraordinary "witness" to Jesus the Christ.

Mary fulfills this definition beyond ALL other Saints. She walked the walk without all the talk. :P

She was the new Ark of the Covenant in which the Word was made Flesh. Pretty special human created especially by God to carry the Word made Flesh, Jesus the Christ.

Now, I challenge you to compare the Old Testament Ark of the Covenant (Written Word) with Mary the New Ark of the Covenant ( Word made Flesh).

It will be enlightening...I promise.

Mary is the greatest of all the saints.

the blessed virgin mary is the most holy human being who ever lived. she is a saint (a saint is anyone who has been admitted into heaven) but she takes precedence of all other saints: god chose her, and her only, out of all who ever lived to carry his flesh in her womb.

roman catholics teach that you should respect the saints by showing them honour (the greek word is 'dulia').

god alone is to be worshiped (the greek word is 'latria').

but mary is to be honoured above all other mortals: her due is 'hyperdulia' (absolute respect).

Timo, has got it right. Catholics honour Mary as the mother of Jesus.
She is held in more esteem than all the saints.
She is, as it says in our litany to Mary. Queen of heaven.
She is not Saint anything. She is known as Our Lady (of Guadalope, Lourdes)etc. the Places where she has appeared.

Yes.

Jesus' mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a saint.

+ Saints +

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.

Asking others to pray for you whether your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.

+ The Blessed Virgin Mary +

"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you" (Luke 1:28)

"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb" (Luke 1:42).

In Luke 1:48, Mary prophesied: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed."

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

A question for Christians who take the Bible literally: Do you call Mary "blessed"? If not, why?

+ With love in Christ.

She is the greatest of the Saints in Heaven, only God is superior to her in Holiness this is by a special gift of God and also a consequence of Her deep humility. She is Queen of Heaven, Queen of the Angels, Mother of God (Jesus is God),
