brunettegurl52695, what makes you think that invitations are only $100? obviously, you don't have any clue about how much weddings cost these days (averaging $25000). invitations, envelopes, response cards, response card envelopes, and receptions card for 300 people run at $600 for simple ones, and for more classy ones run as high as $1000. maybe you should check your facts before you go around bad mouthing everyone that is looking for a little advice.

I am printing out my own invitations and it's really easy! I bought an invitation kit from the stationary section at Staples (they also have them at Office Max). It includes a sheet for the invitation, a reply card, an envelope for the reply card and a big envelope to put it all in. The reply card is one-sided if that makes a difference. They even include a sheet of paper that gives you hints about wording and how to print out your invitation. The kit included 50 sets of invitations, reply cards, reply envelopes and big envelopes along with 2 test sheets all for only $30. You can get invitations printed for you but often you have to buy a minimum number of invitations; often 100 minimum. I have seen invitations that cost as little as $100 for 50 printed invitations and reply cards so just do an internet search and see what you find. Weddings don't have to be as expensive as you describe and you don't need things like place cards. People can sit where they want and most people think that is perfectly acceptable. Maybe one reason you're so stressed is because you're worried about having the "perfect" wedding and getting everything just right. Just do what you want. There are lots of ways to cut corners and cut the stress. My fiance and I are having our reception at a restaurant and get a private room for up to 80 people for only $1500 which includes feeding them all. This restaurant has some of the best food in the area too. We can decorate it any way we want and get to use the room for 4 hours. It just takes a little searching to find deals like that.

Congrats on your wedding! I am getting married 05/08 and will be making my invites too. I got my idea from Michael's website. Michael's has 100 blank invites w/envelopes for only $14.99. (I used 40% off coupon from Sunday paper and saved even more!) I am having a black and white theme wedding so I also purchased black cardstock and some funky ribbon for the top of the invite. I will also be printing everything on my printer to save some $ too. Good Luck to you!! Congrats again & Merry Christmas!

Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

There is LOTS of cardstock for invitations at Michael's craft store (if you have one by you) or at Hobby Lobby (again, if there is one by you.) I know Michael's has lots in their scrapbooking section (I used to work there). They also sell "vellum paper" which can be printed on for a layered look.....(cardstock underneath and the vellum on top.)

Another idea would be to buy the "boxed sets" of invitations that are sold at places like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Target, Office Max. There are soooo many nice sets now. You get a set of 50 for about $25. It includes 50 invitations, 50 envelopes, 50 RSVP cards and 50 RSVP envelopes. You bring them home and print them yourself using your own computer.

I know you said you will have about 300 guests. You need to remember, however, that there are at least 2 guests per invitation (or maybe more if it's a family), so you will only need to mail out about 150 total invitations. If you buy 3 boxed sets (150 total invites), it should only cost you about $75-$100!!

If you want something else....there is another girl on here "Melancholyblues" who did beautiful invitations for her wedding all on her own. I know she is looking at doing this as a side business, so you may want to contact her. She has posted a few questions today, so click on her profile and email her. She can guide you to her wedding website with a picture of her invite on there.

Good luck!

I spent less than 100 on my invitations

At Walmart, they have very similar kits to michael's. It has 50 invitations, 50 envelopes, 50 all-purpose cards (which i used as response cards) and 50 envelopes for those. My kit was 13 dollars. They have all kinds of styles.

To spruce it up, I ordered some vellum online and tied it on top with ribbon. 25 dollars for 100 pieces of vellum, and you cut it in half because the invitations are half the size of a piece of paper.

They turned out to be beautiful, and well below what i had budgeted!

http://www.archiversonline.com/ They sell inviation papers. If they have a store in your area, go in b/c their are cards and invitiatons hanging all around the store that were made by employees and scrapbookers that you could look at for inspiration.

Mountain Cow is awesome! You can buy there software to design invites, but it's expensive... they have lots of paper supplies for diy invites at great prices.. look at their gallery for inspiration for your own design.

Staples has a invitation kit that you can buy either in white or ecru. I'm sure other stores like that have the same or something similiar. If you need help with wording, fonts or anything else you can email me.

I got my wedding invitations at a craft store (Michaels') and printed them out myself. including invitations with jackets, rsvp cards and outer envelopes, ink for my printer, etc... it was about $60 for 25 invitations.

be sure to check out any local printing companies or office supply stores like staples. many of them will work with you to find something you like in your price range.

You don't say where you are, but if there is a Michael's craft store nearby they have a very good selection and the prices are reasonable. They also have all the other items you may want to do yourself.

Stay calm, it will all get done and be lovely.

Best wishes
