My BT landline will accept incoming calls, but when I pick up receiver to make an outgoing call, there is a continuous high-pitched tone and I cannot dial numbers.

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Your line has been put Temporary Out of Service by BT.

Probably 'coz you aint paid your bill !!!

Sounds as if you have been put on incoming calls only service or, if you are not the account holder, could be the phone is locked via a pin-type service.

Looks like you've been O.C.Bd.Outgoing calls barred.Have you paid your bill. This is what they do to stop you running up any more call charges, whilst allowing others to spend money ringing you. They also do this when a house has been empty to stop calls bring made by unknowns who cannot be sent a bill.

Go to www.bt.com - select "at home" then find "report and track faults".. they will do a realtime line test.

A thought - are you using broadband? if not & you're online you can't use the phone at the same time (apologies, you knew that already)

good luck

We had that last week. Rang the BT office/Faults and they found an underground fault and fixed it.
