see simple stuff, it doesn't have to be a ballgown.
Go to le chateau or something and get a simple dress.
They even have those oversized-shirt dresses or the parachute dressed, that look casual on their own, but add a nice purse, some high heels, and a nice hair-do and you'll be good to go!

I'm with those who say a church-type dress--a dressy daytime dress. Length is up to you as long as the dress isn't. If some others wear cocktail dresses, just remember that it's better to underdressed than overdressed, and if the men have to be asked to wear non-T shirts and ties, there probably won't be any of them sufficiently dressed up to make a cocktail dress appropriate. Might it be, anyway, that the birthday person wants his/her parents to see what nice, respectable friends he/she has?

It worries me that at 17 - 18 ish, you don't know what is meant by a "nice dress" to wear, but I guess most teens are like that (that's not a knock - I was a teen once too - and you should see what we wore in the 70's!!!!)
You should wear something that used to be called "A Sunday Go to Meetin' Dress" - something modest, not too flashy, don't show too much cleavage or too much leg, not too tight. We're not talking prom dresses here, but just a "pretty" dress.
I hope that helps.

While the invitation asks ladies to wear a "nice dress', all it
means that the dress should be neat. Any of your casual
dresses would be fine. Boys are asked to wear a "nice shirt"
(rather than a t shirt) A dress that you may wear to work would be fine. It is not a fancy party

I don't know how much skin your comfortable revealing, if you dress conservatively or what your body shape is, but I've got a few dresses that vary depending on what you like. (All under $50) Also, if you don't want to wear a dress, I'm sure that would be fine so I also included some links of pants that would probably look cute as well :) (Also under $50) Good luck!!! Have fun and be safe!

I don't have any links of any particular dresses but I feel that this means a nice church or sunday school dress.

Picture yourself going to Church. That what she means. How you get dressed to church is how you should go dressed to this party. Why would they want to have a party like that? Especially if it's an 18 year old? Just asking!

Um, probably just a nice cocktail dress or skirt. I don't think it needs to be too formal.

Hope it goes well! I also agree not to have it too short
