My dog Kobey is a shetland sheepdog(or collie, we're not exactly sure, but anyways) he's a "bit" overweight. He has a skin infection that comes back after it finally goes away, and he won't excercise or do anything. I have 2 other dogs, another sheltie and a toy poodle, and they're perfectly healthy. I guess Kobey gains some excess weight when he steals their food sometimes, but he won't do anything.
His nose has a white spot on it too. It's not fur, it's like dried out nose. And I can' get it back to the healthy black wet stage.
Ah yes, once we start walking, he'll stop, refuse, start whining, or try running back home, etc.
Please help?

Okay, I live in a 3 floor house. So stairs don't help. He barely uses them anyways.

And well we do feed them properly. Don't blame me on that one. I watch them eat. It's just that when Kobey is finished(first all the time) and the others just leave there food, he finds some way to get the leftovers. Even if they're on the table.

Yes I do feed all three dogs dry food and water, nothing else.
Rarely any treats, except for the poodle because he's the tiniest thing in the world(not literally, but he's so skinny)

Try getting her thyroid checked. sometimes when a dog has skin problems and a weight problem it usually means they have thyroid disease.

If it's an option, move someplace that has a stairway. My pets lost a lot of weight from goign up and down stairs all the time.

Seperate the dogs when feedign them and make sure he only gets dog food, no people food. Is his food age appropriate? That can make a difference.

Take him to a vet and spend the money on extensive testing. he may be allergic to somethign or maybe have worms if he's althargic.

Obviously you don't feed your dog properly or watch that he doesn't steal the other mutts food!
You need to ONLY give him DRY food and water. In the DRY food (nutromax preferably) you need to give him BREWERS YEAST tablets. ALSO, a 1,000 mg SOFT GEL tablet of FISH OIL WITH OMEGA 3. This will help his nose get back to wet and moist, but it takes a while. This needs to be done in a controlled enviroment where he is not stealing everyone else food. You cannot give him table scraps, because that will make him gain more weight and not want to eat his food. The skin infection should be looked at by a VET, as it is probably caused by FLEAS. They have the only medicine that will truly kill fleas (Advantage- not sold over the counter). This is the #1 reason for skin irritations. Good Luck !

It sounds as if you have several problems going on at the same time . The easiest I would like to suggest a possible cause. Do you feed your dog out of Plastic? Dose he have plastic toys or a plastic drinking bows? Plastic as it gets old emmits a gas that has caused color changes in collies and shelties ,it also can cause the end of the nose to fall off. Iwitnessed such a thing with a chamion in the early 60's and have seen it happen over and over again. A coupleof years ago I allowed a breeder to take one of my best sheltie females to produce a litter for her. She was a very special pet to me and was of superior quality . I warned her against feeding her out of plastic yet she was returned with a butterfly nose.
The skin infection could be a dog food allergy problem, dose
dog have food with wheat in it , and dose he have ear problems as well , I like to use green beans to supeliment my dog's diet when they get a little too over weight but cut back on the amount he is getting! Also have his thyroid checked.
Walking on a leash is something that is taught and the condition you describe sounds like you both could benefit from Barbara Woodhouse's book Training you to train your dog. Buy your dog from reputable breeders and avoid mixed breeds. A Good breeder is not always the breeder who wins at the dog shows these simply mean thatthose breeders in the openion of a so called judge put up that dog on that day.
Mixed breed dogs bring mixed problems. Pure bred dogs bring Breed problems. At least with a single breed of dog you can generally know what is in store for any particular breed, most of the time. CONSULT YOUR VET HE IS THE AUTHORIETY ON ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS.
Respectfully
a breeder of shelties for nearly 60 years.

Go to your vet. They can calculate a diet plan based on the amount of weight he needs to loose. They can also look into the recurring skin problems. The could also be some sort of endocrine problem with the dog. So take it into the vet and get him checked out. If the weight gain is due to stealing the other dog's food. you may have to start feeding them seperately.
