At the moment I live in a valley with really bad reception. I have no access to an outside arial and have a little portable arial which is pretty useless. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how I can improve reception as all I do is watch dvd's as it is so bad and I want to watch all the wonderful Christmas crap that's on. Thanks.

Get a TV amplifier from Radio Shack. go to the Radio Shack www site and search on TV amplifier. See link below. You may some adapters to go between a "Rabbit ears" on your TV top, the amplifier, and the TV itself.
If you're not sure, find a geek friend to hunt down what you need and hook it up.
I've gone this route for almost 20 years and haven't paid a dime for cable or satellite reception.

you can buy Aerial amplifiers for around £14 that connect between the aerial and the television which boost the signal into the television, go to Argos or your local television shop.

you said you had an indoor aerial, check an argos catalogue to look for an aerial amplifier that plugs into the mains, this will help boost the poor signal you are getting, don't expect miracles though.

Put an outside aerial indoors,near a window that faces the same way as the other aerials and use a booster as well.

so what's wrong with a satellite dish?
You don't have to subscribe.
We bought our dish and digi box off of Sky but don't subscribe.
We still get about 200 channels including all the usual - BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, ITV 1,2,3 etc
