Too late. It should be done by three days.

Docking HAS to be done at 2-3 days of age or it is considered an amputation and has to be done under anesthesia.
You can't dock or amputate a tail by yourself. Have your nephew talk to a vet and find out what he needs to know. This isn't at all a DIY job that you can do at home.

The tail on dogs shoudl be docked a 0 to 3 days of age. No later, and this should be done by a vet, because when the tail is docked they have to stich it up. It is probably to late now, and if it is registered you shouldnt dock the tail or remove dew claws, because at shows now , they want the dog as is..

Only experienced people should dock dogs' tails. At this age, it's probably too old.

Docking is done by the 3rd day after birth, no later.

yeah that is done in the first days of being born, no ethical vet would do it for you, and if you do find one who will, well run away b/c he would probably end up hurting or killing him. your just going to have to deal with the tail
