My family recently got two kittens which today are about 4 months old. They are extremely social and appears to really enjoy life and us. My question is about their purring. Other cats I've seen purr when they are in the sociable mood and like to play around, but our cats purr a lot more. For hours. Everyday. And when both purrs, it sounds almost like a Diesel engine.

Is this something I should be happy about, that our cats seem to enjoy themselves so much, or is there perhaps an additional explanation?

Thanks guys for your answers!! Just another silly thing. Does it happen a lot that a kitten "hold hands" with you? My male kitten wants me to hold his paw for about an hour every night right before I go to sleep. It's so cool. Has this happened to any of you?

They are just happy!!! They must love your family. In my experience though, kittens purr more than full grown cats. Enjoy it while you can!

We recently got a kitten also. I'm pretty sure that purring all the time is a good thing - it means they're quite content. Our kitten, Colbie, purrs ALL the time. The other night she actually stopped purring for a while and I got worried! Haha! :) But it's OK if they purr for a long time or a lot - it just means that they're happy. :)

I have an adult cat that purrs really loud most of the time. She's in good health and seems to be happy.
Your kittens are just so happy and are lucky to have you as their owner and that makes them happy!

Sounds normal to me. Just like some people are more talkative than others, some cats are more purrative than others!

Purring is great and healthy for a cat. They are probably purring alot because they are happy and are enjoying life alot. Purring like I said is a good sign, and if I were you i would be happy for those cute little guys that are happy.
They just sound like happy content kitties to me! Good Luck!

Little kittens purr just like babies coo. They are fine.
(Purring can also mean that a cat is ill and they actually do that to make themselves feel better.
That will be apparent when you take a sick cat in to see a vet.)
Don't worry at all about them now. Congratulations. Enjoy them.
C. :)!!

my cat purrs just when i start approaching it, probably out of happiness to see you or maybe it's just so happy & in a great mood! (hopefully [= ) but, as i read in my cat book, it says that purring also means that it's in pain. so please check that out. of not call & ask your vet ASAP just in case. hopefully your kittens are okay!

It means they're VERRRRRY happy. My kittens purr when they're laying on my pillow, and it lulls me to sleep better than a sleeping draught! :D

Enjoy the fuzzy darlings!
