If you have a chipoo, a poodador, or some other "designer", and you think they are REAL breeds, what constitutes a mutt?

Now that we've agreed that a mutt is a mutt no matter WHAT you call it, who has actually paid a "breeder" for one? Why did you think it was neccessary to pay for a mutt when you can get the same cross at a shelter?

A mutt is a mix of 2 or more different breeds. To me, "designer" breeds are mutts with high price tags.

A mutt is anything that is not a purebred-2 different breeds constitutes a mutt. Having a purebred gives folks some bragging rights and certain things about a purebred will be predictable--you will pretty much know-certain traits that dog will have, how they will look, how big they will be etc....having a mutt is quite a different story. You never know what you're going to get--for instance: I have a dog that I have raised since birth--he is lab/shephard/chow--his mother is black with white markings--he is golden with a cinnamon sprinkle -white feet and tail tip-just like his ma-he looks like a lab (mostly)-can jump like a shephard and acts like a chow. I also have another dog that is lab/aussie: he is white with caramel color splotches--his coat is extremely soft and his facial features are more aussie like--he is very smart--and lastly--I have a Beagle--he is a nose with 4 paws. I love all my dogs the same regardless of what's in them and the best part is: they all love me too!

A mix of 2 breeds is a mutt. I have a mutt (chihuahua/shihtzu mix) Most people would sell these as a designer breed for lots of money, but it is still a MUTT

Well, I have a very unique dog and have heard that a "mutt" is of uncertain ancestry or is a mix of 4+ breeds.
Personally, any mix is a mutt.

I would say 'designer' dogs are mixes, for example a "chipoo" {vomit} would be a chihuahua x's poodle mix.
A mutt could be a mix of more than 2 dogs, or a dog who's breed history is uncertain.
People who invent stupid cutesy false designer names for their dogs in order to sell them for a profit should be fined, banned from breeding and made to work at a dog shelter.
