I agree with separation of church and state 100%. Despite this being part of the stated foundation of our country, in practice it has not been so over the years. Reference to God on our currency, in the Pledge of Allegience, the practice of using the Bible when taking an oath in our courts, public prayer, countless references to USA being a "Christian Nation", etc......all contradict separation of church and state. People will be offended by displays of the nativity scene no matter where they are set up because it flies in the face of their beliefs, just as Christians would be offended by displays of an upside-down cross, or other occult symbols. However, if these displays become government supported, then we are ALL in big trouble.....Christians and non-Christians alike. A government that sides with any religion cannot be impartial to all.

You already know. Because Christmas is a holiday called Yule that was stolen and twisted from the Pagans that so called loving Christians burned at the stake. Not to mention the holiday of MidWinter that falls just a few days before Christmas.
Go learn history and get over your Christian arrogance. People are sick of Christian behavior.
Your religion has no business being in gvt public areas. NONE. AT ALL. You want a nativity scene? Go display it in your church or your own yard, but don't you dare put it in a public spot while denying all others the right to do the same for their NON CHRISTIAN RELIGIONS.

I love nativity scenes. I create one every year in my family room out of stuffed animals. I have a flying pig in angel wings strung from the ceiling; the “three wise guys” are bears that bring the baby Jesus (a bear cub in a diaper) cigarettes, pot and booze, and slew of other animals high on ecstasy dancing around in Xmas garb. It’s great fun and a wonderful conversation piece. This is how I celebrate my religion. Do you want me to insist that I have the right to put one public property or have the government pay for it?

Nobody is "offended" by the nativity scene! Many of us object to its being displayed in public (government) areas. Government funds should not be used to support or advocate for ANY religion!

government funds?
Look at your dollar bill!
Look in a soldiers backpack when he enlists (there is a small bible) bought by the Gov.
This nation was built by God fearing men and women. It will eventually fall at the hands of political correctness and those who are "offended". It will be a while but will happen.
Those that are so offended I say move to another country, try out your "I'm offended" there, if you live your lucky. Christian beliefs are the reason we have this great country, not perfect, but better then anything else.

Nativity scenes aren't a big deal if they're kept where they belong....on church and private property.
If someone wants to put up a nativity scene in their front yard...fine.
If a church wants to put one up in their gathering area...fine.
If a church wants to put one up in the middle of the local town park...then they have a problem.
If you're gonna allow one religious display on public property, you better be prepared to allow ALL religious displays on public property...
It's better to just keep them on your own private property...

The nativity scene is kind of cute...with all those animals and people gazing at a newborn baby.
Maybe those who are offended just don't like little babies.

Doesn't mind it at all on the lawn of a private house, or in front of a private business, or the yard of a church. Where it doesn't belong in front of a government (federal ,state, city, or county) building.

I only have a problem when it's on public property. Or government buildings. Why? Because it goes against separation of church and state.

Jesus taught that his followers would be hated and persecuted and killed. It has to start somewhere, and being provoked by displays of belief in Christ would be expected in haters of Christ.
