I think whoever believes in that sort of thing will go to Hell if that's where they think they are going.

It is not that hard to believe there is a God with intelligence by merely studying the universe. It is also not that hard to believe that people will have to have some sort of accountability to this same God. I don't believe people are accountable to something that they are unaware of. I think there is basic knowledge of God's character (creativity, power, etc..), and there is a basic conscience of right and wrong that people will also probably be accountable. People who stubbornly refuse God's love, and arrogantly suppress the truth will be accountable. I am somewhat amazed, not totally because I did it too, how people pick up a some facts here and there, and never honestly and open-mindedly investigate about Jesus. Some, probably few, do, who are very bright, and get saved. There is a big difference between the Bible and other religious work.

I think the greatest sin is probably not theft, adultery, homosexuality, etc.., but to reject Jesus. It must be such a horrible thing.

Perhaps in some sense, since God is love, peace, light, etc., to be separated from Him, is the absence of these things ... hate, torment, darkness, etc.

Surprising to most is that God's standard is perfection and holiness. The bible says without such "no man will see God"! Therefore, based on God's standard, the cut off point is one sin. That's all it takes to separate us from God eternally. God realizes our plight and thus sent His perfect Son to become sin for us, so that we might be redeemed or bought back. As far as what percentage goes to either place, once again the bible says that broad is the road and wide is the gate that leads to destruction and many enter through it. I do not know what that percentage is, but it sounds like more than 50% go the wrong way!

He decided before the earth was created, if you follow the opening to Ephesians 1.
Romans 8, if you prefer:
"For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son,"

And since Jesus is quite clear that:
"...the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it".- Matthew 7:13-14
Most have not been chosen.

(how that fits with free will is a debate that's run for centuries, right up to current questions here!)

So if the bible is right, most people are heading for destruction/extinction/eternal torment.
(there's varied Christian beliefs on what death and hell actually involve)

There is no hell as you perceive it. It can be viewed from several different points but none of them incorporate everlasting torment for human beings. Aside from that, there is insufficient empirical evidence to support the hypothesis of a god or gods. So god decides nothing. If you absolutely have to believe in a god, the bible does not say that you will burn in hell. I have researched this topic and I know what I am talking about.

The only way to go to heaven and not eternal hell is by believing that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Those who refuse to believe will go to eternal hell.

Depending upon the existing vacancies whosoever on a cutoff date does something to merit attention would be readily obliged.

It's already decided my friend.

No dying and retrying over and over until you get it right. No being really really good more then your really really bad, my word who keeps tabs on that?

No cutoff point, you are created, you believe in Jesus Christ and his gift of salvation and you go to heaven. Don't and you got o hell. That's it. Very simply.

The cut off point is when you don't believe in your heart and confess with your mouth, your believe in the God the Father and his son, Jesus, that died on the cross for all of our sins.
