My kitty (oriental shorthair) is 8 months and from some time he bites me (but not strong, he don't hurts me) when we play. He is happy and not running afterwards. I lightly punish him or shout on him after every action like that. He do this also with other people, always during play or cuddling. Why is he doing this? How to teach him to stop doing this.

Biting is just part of play for kittens. The best way to get him to stop doing it is to keep a small squirt bottle full of water nearby and give him a little spritz every time it happens- he'll quickly learn to associate biting with getting sprayed, and will stop. This is also useful for keeping cats off the stove or furniture.

I got my kitten to stop by cupping his nose every time he bit- it drove him crazy and the biting was done in a few days. I don't know how well that would work for other cats, though.

Watch kittens fidgeting with one yet another. They chase one yet another, chew, claw, and kick. To them, those are purely some practise on a thank you to instruct affection. Their epidermis is far less delicate than ours, and that they are added risk-free by their fur. in the event that they're declawed (the two 2 paws or 4) they count extra on biting. all the comparable, except you think approximately scar tissue a fashion assertion, they could desire to be experienced to no longer scratch or chew human beings, a minimum of no longer as no longer uncomplicated as they might yet another cat. the final way i've got discovered to do it is to scold them and end fidgeting with them while they show the undesired behaviour. forget approximately them until they go away you by myself, indicating that they have got forgotten the incident and grow to be bored. (This often takes under 5 minutes.) in case you do this continuously for some days, you are able to desire to start to word a distinction. in spite of the shown fact that, you are able to desire to follow it or the kitten will start to revert.

If your cat was with other cats for a time, then that is how he is used to playing. my cat is probably 1 year old now and he still bites me. If at any time it starts to hurt wear a sweat shirt and remove one arm from your sweatshirt and drag the sleeve along. If it pounces it's just trying to get the sleeve. Hope this helps!!!

It's a normal part of kitten-playing, especially at that age.

Has he been neutered? You might want to consider doing that before his aggression becomes real.

Keep telling him 'No!' when he bites. Add to that a light thump if he doesn't listen. He'll probably outgrow it eventually.

Good luck!

He's just playing-don't be cross with him...

One of my dogs still does it although he's not really a pup anymore-he's just having fun.

My dog bites me gently when we play fight. That's what kittens, cats, puppies and dogs do when they mix it up. Don't stop him doing what comes naturally to him.
